Whats so special about VTEC engines???

This whole thing is so stupid. VTEC is just an engine technology like BMW's Double-VANOS and Lexus' VVT-i, etc. All cars have variable valve timing now, it is really nothing special. The problem is that you don't see BMW enthusiasts with "VANOS" stickers all over their cars. It really just makes no sense at all. I mean hell, my car is technically a really nice rice-burner, but you won't see any "3.5 VQ" stickers anywhere on my car.

EPJ3 has it all messed up again.

VTEC is Honda's answer to low torque small displacement engines. It allows the engine to compensate ignition timing at low revs to increase torque and then give back at the top end. Not for a "MOUNTAIN" type curve like you said EPJ but actually the opposite.. they try for a flat curve.

Honda was the first but Vanos is not any better.

VTEC has been improved with VTECi which is infinitely adjustable.

Honda engines are hardly "economy engines" and lastly, 190 hp in a honda is the same 190 hp in a BMW.
read the thread you stupid fu*k, i said i was wrong.

(Deleted by Big Daddy) Why dont you go to your little low displacement forums and be happy. I admitted that I was wrong, and you, like usual, had to chime in and flame me.

Who's swearing? Who's flaming who?

I don't remember saying anything bad about you.

Small displacement forum? Please tell me where that is.

Also, for a laugh I'd like you to explain, using math, the relationship between torque and hp. I chime in because you come off like a real idiot espousing something you invented and trying to pass it as truth, then posting a link trying to prove your point when in actuality the link discredits you completely.

Too funny.

Wow, I didn't know there was such hatred between these cars. I mean, I love my 98 328i, but I also enjoy the occasional Honda. I've had one crx, two accords, and one passport. While they may not be the "driving machine" that BMW's are, they are still pretty comfortable and reliable. I've thought about buying another Honda just to save miles on my 328 and for fuel mileage. My crx got 40+mpg.

Can't we all just get along?? he he he

BMW vs. Honda is a huge thing on the internet and on the streets.

I am one who tries to bridge the gap. Being an afficionado and owner (albeit former at the moment for the bimmers, but not for long . . .) of both gives me the ability to move in both circles. In addtion to this forum, you can find me on www.acura-tl.com , www.nsxprime.com , www.bimmerforums.com , www.roadfly.org , www.m5board.com , etc.

On many occasions you can find the BMW folks bashing the Honda folks and the Honda folks bashing the BMW folks. Most of the time, the people doing the bashing don't know what they are talking about. Neither marque is perfect, neither marque is crap. Bashing one doesn't make the other any better.

I just dont like honda's, never have. I didn't like honda's before I ever liked bmw's (i used to hate bmw's for the exact reason a lot of other people do). I wouldnt mind my parents owning a honda becuase our van is complete crap, but I dont think I would ever be happy with one. Maybe an S2000 though, I love that car.

I wont ever want a HONDA [:p]. I'm just a clear cut Honda Hater. But like I've stated on other posts I don't hate the drivers just when they get on your ass. [?|] *cough*ricers*cough* [thumb]

But I agree we should all just get along [:o] someday [:p]

Okay okay, your honda is quite cool too, but it's not really a conventional honda. I mean come on, it has an A on the front, not an H [:p]
Not in the rest of the word. Acura is just marketing hype for the status-conscious USA (and Canada, for some reason that doesn't really make sense, given how enlightened and European those SOBs are).

Even my NSX has an H on the engine, the door sills, etc.

Many people in the US convert their NSXs back to original Honda spec:

I might get F1 HONDA as a vanity plate.

You know I love to break balls on the Honda tip. Its all about the love, baby.

i could care less about the whole honda/japanese car vs. bmw/euro car crap...

as long as youre not a "ricer" poseur who puts a giant exhaust & spoiler & etc. on their car but still runs a stock engine with piss-poor power then its all ok with me

Exactly. The true enthusiast is open to the possibility that a great car can come from anywhere. Just like a true human being is open to the possibility that a great person can come from anywhere. I know it is hard to swallow, particularly those of you in your teens with a lot of 'ricers' in your area. You must separate the car from the jacka$$ driving it.

Even Hyundai has had some decent looking concept cars as of late and is starting to bring some halfway decent, rally-bred technology to bear in the market. There is a guy on the west coast with an old Tiburon running two turbocharged engines, two drivetrains and two transmissions, thus AWD. The car runs 10s and was a famous sleeper that took down many a serious car for $$ until they put it in magazines (Sport Compact Car, IIRC).

Thanks, but its nothing new.

Believe me it is much easier to say you live by the book. Can you do it? [:D]

(I mean the great unwritten book of the road, for those of you who haven't seen Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. And if you haven't, shame on you!).

And for those who have and fear the christian right, check this sh!t out:

(Edit)
That is some scary stuff.
