You're saying that it is impossible for me to beat a 3250 lb e36 m3, with 240hp/ 236 Ft-Lbs that has a power to Weight Ratio of, 13.5 LB / HP with my 5000lbs ML55 with 342hp/ 375Ft-Lbs that has a power to weight ratio of 14.6. Lb/ HP
.
E36 M3 weighs 3175 lbs. It has about a 13 to 17% drivetrain loss and short gearing. Your ML has an automatic with insane drivetrain loss and tall gears, becuase it's an automatic. Why do people like you ONLY look at max hp? The S14 in the e30 M3 has 192 hp (the US version), and the M50 in the e36 325i has 189. But if you threw an M50 in an e30 M3, it would pull better and be faster than the S14. My point is just because its only 240 hp and 236 ftlb torque, it has torque EVVVERRRYWHERE, which when combined with an efficient and short ratio gear box, is the ONLY reason its 0-60 is 5.4 seconds. How many 240 hp cars can claim acceleration times like that???

Dude I don't really care, you have a soccer mom truck (okay okay, a soccer mom who married rich). I have a sports car, what makes you think I care - at least my car has near 0 chance of rolling over for taking a turn too fast.

We all know you will outrun him in the corners.
As for the straight sprint: I think it will be even depending on who shifts better and/or launches better. Why?

I drive a 3.0 turbo diesel (manual-6) and my best friend drives a 03 Mustang GT convertible (manual-5). We both know how to shift and have raced each other so many times (even 0-150 sprints). And guess what: on an average, he WILL outrun me, but only a car length maximum with a 0-100mph sprint. And my car has 204 hp......of course it has more torque than an M3 but I need to shift like a maniac (need to go to 3rd gear to reach 60mph).

Since a 330i seems to be a LITTLE bit faster than a 330d according to BMW and a couple of car magazines, I think a 330i and the 03 Mustang GT should be roughly equal.

Just my 2 cents.

Thinking of it.....I could chiptune my car......

and gain around 40 hp and 90 nm torque......

than I probably outrace my buddy in a straight line as well as in the corners.....

would be funny, a diesel 'smoking' a Mustang GT

It wont flip, I took a 45 degree turn at 90mph. Tripod? Yes. Flip? No [screwy]

Dont say 0, ANY car can flip, its just not as easy for a car the size of yours.

The number speak the reality.
Actually you have it backwards - the lower pounds/hp is better, indicating that the M3 has a better lb/hp ratio. (The lower number means that the engine has to push less weigh per 1 hp)

Curb weight varies with the time of the year also. In the winter the passengers eat a little more and move a little less, while closer to the summer they decide to loose weight to looks better in a bikini. See, its a function of at least 5 variables, you need to know multivariable calculus and differential equations even if you just want to guess which car would be faster.

Its all fun and games guys, relax a little. Who cares who's car is faster in a straight line, its not like arguing about it is going to change the situation in any way.

LOL - we all make mistakes, by the way the curb weight on your vehicle is not 5000, it's 4675

[rolleyes] ok so now this thread is on 4pgs and i havent seen any results of a race [idea] are you gonna race this dude or were you just pullin everybodies chain?
Im glad you jsut brought that up. I jsut got home and yes, I challenged him finally today. On the straght away we dragged from 60-100 amazingly it was neck and neck I was amazed how the fact that I even was keeping neck to him. I started my steptronic into third gear and let it go. He was at the same time when he floored it too. I was surprised at first that we were neck and neck becasue I thought I would get killed in the race. maybe it was cuz oif shifting? I was at 4th gear when we came to 100. He followed me to out on some high top mountain roads. I was on 2nd gear most of the time shifting up to 3rd and back to 2nd on really tight turns going at least 40 from what I remeber looking at my speedometer and Im talking about really tight curvy roads. He knew the road well to but truely to say, I beat him big time on the twisties. I did not have my video camera but my DSLR was hooked up for it and had it set or timing. I have some shots of hte curved roads. I proudly say that this is why BMW holds the crown for saying The Ultimate Drving machine. After the race he was cool about it but overall it was fun. not for seeing whos better but it was fun.
