I definitely agree with you Kirby, but Eric does bring up certain good points. I would just like to state that although Eric and I debate a lot on the forum, we do chat on AIM all the time so even when our arguments seem hostile or aggressive, we are still chill on a person-to-person basis. I assume this is also the case with Adam, Chesty, and others when we are debating.
Yeah Emile...when we "argue" and "debate" it is never anything personal. Our board is full of different opinions and thoughts...and that is what makes it great [slap]

BTW I'd much rather have the e90 than the e46, for tons of reasons. I believe they got rid of the structural issues the 3 series has had for the past 14 years.
What structural issues? I have owned 3 E46s...and never heard of, or experienced this. Can you elaboarate? All 3 of my E46s feel as if they were carved from a single piece of marble. Besides from my two W124 Benzes (1992 & 1995 E Class), my 2005 M3 is the tightest, best built and structrally sound car I have ever driven or owned. Period.

Had the same rear subframe/shock mount problems as the E36, just not as bad.

Obviously it's not a big problem though, and only people who modify their cars or drive them very hard are at risk.......

either that or if you live in pennsylvania and drive your car in the spring.....before they patch up any potholes [spank]

You want sport package, the suspension is surely stiffer, which caused by stronger spring rates to handle additional horsepower and cornering load. Wider tires and higher tire pressure, so that your sport package can reach 60mpg within 4.9sec. By upgrading the anti-swap bar can ease the stiffness, but considering where to adjustment of the hole on the bar can take up to months. You know this project is very tough, if you tuned a car before.

If you want a true sport car, I warn you - they don't come with a comfort ride.

Oh btw, I have actually driven a 745iL.

It felt really comfortable, that's for sure. And I do realise that the 7 is the luxury pinnacle of BMW but there was just no....character. The car was very competent but I couldn't hear the engine; the steering was wooden and uncommunicative; the brakes felt as though they were responding to a computer, not my foot etc. Straight after driving it, I got into my dad's E38 (he wasn't home so I took the liberty of using his car [hihi]) and immediately felt more connected to it. Sure, the recirc ball steering is far from satisfactory but everything else felt just so. And the noise the M62 V8 makes is just to die for.

I guess my gripe with the new BMs is that they're too clinical, too disconnected. And I just cannot understand how they think their new designs are good. I mean, the design of a BMW should appeal to everyone. It shouldn't polarise opinion in the way it has recently. After all, was there anyone in the world that thought the E24 6-Series was ugly?

I forgot about that shock mount issue. On my first 2004 330cic, mine had to be replaced at 1000 miles.

Exactly. I do not think I knew one person that did not like the E24 6 Series, the E36 and especially the previous 5 Series (E39). The E39 was always praised for it's sleek and tradt'l looks, that attracted followers from young hipsters (Jessica Simpson and Nich Lachey still drive a 540i) to older executives. The lines were classic, yet still aggressive and recognizeable as a BMW from any angle. Even if some people like, or even love the new 3, 5, 7 or Z4....just as many people don't like it, or even hate it. That was Never!!! the case with any of the previous designs. Like Pete said perfectly...a design should never polarize buyers. So even if some of the new designs are selling like "hot cakes"...imagine how they would sell if they incorporated traditional BMW design and driver connectivity.

Come on, don't go THAT far. As many people out there that love BMW's, there are equally as many that absolutely hate them. There is just no such thing as satisfying everyone. And Chesty, I don't know what you mean about not hearing the engine of the 745, you hear it all the time. It is not nearly as quiet as a Lexus motor and when you get on it, the sounds you want do get into the cabin, even if you're in the back. Maybe you had the premium Logic7 sound system turned up too high. [hihi]

Yup, I understand and agree this is a good debate.

And to clarify my post, it wasn't intended at singling out or criticizing any particular person's opinion, I was commenting about a "generalization" of many, many opinions expressed here and or other boards.

Did that make any sense?? [hihi]
