Peaked at 3.59 here in Oswego, IL (Shell in Oswego hit over 4 for prem according to my wife).

About the ethanol issue though, if we use to much ethonol (which is more expensive to produce, or at least used to be) it will drive corn prices up which will cause the farmers to produce more corn. This can cause a number of problems that I really don't think that the polititions that are pushing for this have considered.

1. Crop rotations - without the necessary acerage to do proper crop rotations due to more acreage going to corn, more pestisides will need to be used to control bugs. Otherwise, bugs will then deminish the crops causing a corn shortage.

2. Have even just a rumor of drought? Expect gas prices to skyrocket.

3. There is not even close to enough corn produced in this country to even come close to producing enough ethanol to have mandatory 80% ethanol fuels across the country and keep up with demand.

4. With more acreage going to corn, expect all other food sources to inflate higher than normal and any other products that are produced from crops. Keep in mind that many plastics use soy beans as a main ingredient.

$2.79 per gallon for premium here in the Seattle area at Costco.
That's a bargain... premium at BP is $3.39 in NJ and $3.49 in NYC (reasonable stations, not the price gougers)

Washington must have no gas tax...

I think our gas tax is the 3rd highest in the nation. Our advantage is we get gas from Alaska and Canada where it is abundant and still being refined. That will change as time passes, like Scott said it's moving up slowly.

Yea right! A .09 cent gas tax has just taken affect this year. Big D's quote of prem. gas is at Costco and I doubt it still is. Everywhere else it is over $3.00 per gallon.....
That's still cheap PA has a $ 0.35 cent per gallon gas tax and NY's equals that amount or exceeds it considering our gas is more expensive. I guess it all depends on the amount of tax the local municipality decides to levy.

That is just the newest of many taxes on gas in Washington State. Bid Daddy explained it best by stating we get our gas relatively cheap from Canada and Alaska, but it doesn't change the fact that they tax the hell out of it. Anytime there is any kind of major project (that they want funded or partially funded by the public in our state/city) our local politicians always look to tax the gas first. The public is fighting back now and trying to get the .09 repealed.....

The East Coast does get it in the a$$ quite a bit when it comes to gas pricing....
