What do you mean by rubber skin? If you have more wear in the middle of the tire then on the outside, the tires are underinflated. It's the opposite when the tires are overinflated.

On the edge, as in not the sides of the tires and no the bottom that grips the road, the curved edge when side meets the thick part of the tire.

Are there any disavantages with all season tires over Max summer tires? Im trying to decide between the the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (Max Summer) and the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S (Ultra High All Season). I love the tread on the Pirelli's and they are much cheaper (about $200 less for all 4).

I am in California so I dont rilly need all season. Most of the people who reviewed the Pirelli's were with people who used them for snow and stuff which makes me wonder if I'd be getting the right tires. The Good year's had better raitings but are not that much better, dosent look as good, and are much more $$. Does anyone here have any suggestions or comments?

All seasons might be louder on dry road and not have as much grip. If you almost never get snow you can survive with summer tires. I'm on the Kumhos now and we've had at least two weeks of snow on the ground. My dad has Kumho's too and he has to travel to work on the highway way before the plow trucks clear it, but the tires are thinner, the car is heavier and it's FWD. If we'll get the same amount of snow (which is a lot for NYC) in the next few years as we got this year, I would survive with Kumhos. The hardest part is sometimes getting the car out of snow.

Anyone know if the all season Energy mxv4 michellins that come with the car, are the best of its type, and why did the dealer select those tires above all the others?

Well, I like Michellin's motto: "Nunc est bibendum." (Latin for - Now is the time to drink.)

I confess I'm not quite sure why a tire company would chose that for their motto . . . . It certainly wouldn't be politically correct today.

Their mascot's name is "Bibendum," too.

If you don't get any snow and temperatures don't drop below 40 degrees (F), then just get summer tires. As frolf said, they provide uncompromising grip and typically low noise (but Michelin Pilot Sport's are noisy).

Hey, Im looking for some winter tires for my e36, what are some good tires? Im looking for 225-235/45/17 since thats the only thing that will fit on my contours + my car is lowered.

My family has used coopers for years now. We have them on all of our cars, including my BMW. I'm sure i'll try some goodyear F1s when i need the lo pro tire whenever i get new wheels.

We always buy GoodYear Eagle tires and they have served us well on my '94 530i and our 3 corvettes ('60, '62 & '84). Our '00 Bravada still has it's original tires, but we'll replace them too with Eagles when the time comes.[thumb]

no one favorite brand

I've had very good experiences with Michelin (XGTs) and Yokamma (A008s - semi-slicks)...OK experience with Toyo (M&S Proxis - not their highest performance/summer only)..I found the sidewalls on the Toyos to be unacceptably weak contributing to some wheel damage. My experience with Bridgestone has been OK at best (I still have my Bridgestones that came with my 87 MR2 that I took off after about a month and replaced with Yokos)- though again never tried the Potenzas. No experience with Goodyear, Goodrich, or Pirelli etc. Am (expectantly) awaiting some Falken Avenis 235/35/19s to replace the Toyos for my Audi summer tires. In the winter I use (Z rated) Vredsteins which are outstanding. Incredible grip/traction in snow and wet, and corner quite well in dry and are fairly low noise. I could easily use them year round - and in fact they are still on the car...just concerned about wear...also hoping that Falken performance will be as advertised - grippy, quiet, long life. The Michelen Pilots on the 330 ZHP seem quite nice as well...very. I understand that Michelin has recently updated and improved the pilot (S2?) - wonder what will be on the 330 when July rolls around?

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 are very, very quiet. Best tire I've ever owned!

Thanks for the advice, I'll take your word for it. I just wish Michelin offered the 245/45-18 and 225/45-18 sizes I need for my car (they don't have either sizes for the PS2's!). For the Goodyear Eagle F1's, they have my rear tire size but not my front tire size. I may have to go with Bridgestone S-03's because the Pilot Sports on my car now are really great, but their wet traction isn't solid and they are a bit noisy for performance tires.

What is the popular opinion on the Goodyear Eagle RSA's? I would have prefered pilots, but the car came with eagles....
Did you check reviews and ratings on TireRack? That usually gives you an idea of how the tires are.
