Same - also 22, and also proud to own my car. It may not be a $50K+ E46, but it is mine. I am also proud to say I own my own home even if the bank owns the majority.

Of course - it is one damn cool car. Seriously, If I had the money to buy an E46, I wouldn't - I would buy an E30 M3.
To each his own....

16 year olds drive E46s? Oh yea, rich kids.
i'm 20 and i just bought a 2001 325ci e46 and i'm not rich by any means, but buying it at 16 years old would be pushing it.

used with a decent down payment on a loan is the way to go.

This isn't a knock on rich kids, but I'm curious as to how many of the 16 - 25 year olds actually put the down payment on & pay for their E46. I know Pavel/Push/Guessgirl does, but if I had to guess, I'll bet that it's less than 50%?

I just turned 26 but I was paying for a BMW Z3 Coupe 2.8 at the age of 23 ($6,000 down payment.... Stupid Move, I know). I then traded that in for my current BMW 330ci ($2,000 down payment... slightly less stupid). All this was my OWN EARNED MONEY.
I live and drive in Boston and it cracks me when I am stereotyped as some rich, spoiled college student.
I made a lot of money racing bicycles in Europe wanted to reward myself.

I don't think it has to do with age as much as maturity. I'm 20 and I've been driving BMW's since I was 16 (2001 M3 Conv In Imola Red) and I love them for much more than their status symbols. I love driving it and the way the seats feel and how luxurious it is. I love the perfect torque band and perfect steering ratio and all those little things (rain sensor, central locking etc) Its just great and I feel so safe in my current car (2006 X5). I pay for my car and feel I have a right to be judged not based solely on my age :)
cheers!

I got the sport model for the sports seats... does that count??

I didn't pay for my car, but I enjoy driving it. As for stereo-typing, it really doesn't bother me if it doesn't affect me. Know what I mean?

I'm 24. I drive a loaded 2003 330xi ($47K new). I bought it a few months ago.

I finance it myself. I put a sizeable downpayment on it (50%)... and I make all of the monthly payments myself. My family does not pay anything for it... although once my father did buy me a tank of gas (that's worth quite a bit, actually).

I also pay my own car insurance (paid for the upcoming year).

My rent is paid...

And I'm going to the Bahamas in a month with my girlfriend...

Granted, growing up my family was fairly well-off, I've been on my own since, and have been enjoying myself...

I do, agree, though... rich spoiled kids suck. It bothers me when I see them driving around in a nice car dressed up in nice clothes knowing they didn't do anything to deserve that...

I work in Boston as a consulting engineer, by the way... and I volunteer as a paramedic on the side.

Yea but I think 22 or 23 and older isn't a HUGE deal... that's when most people are getting their first real job and stuff. Sounds like you picked the right field [cheers]

Let's be realistic though....I would love to own and drive a Ferrari F430 now at age 21, regardless of who paid for it. I mean, that would just be the ****in bomb....I would whip that shit into NYC every week-end (which is what I do now with the G).
