I wondered about the article too Kirby. Usually he gives some really sound advice, I am not sure about his "knowledge" of e36 failures. I know many "track junkies" with the e36 model and know of none who have suffered these "very rare', "quite rare", and or "almost weekly" failures???

Why is he wrong? Bmw has gone soft. Variable steering ratio's, servo controlled brakes, drive by wire, and a suspension built around run flat tires... Plus visibility has gone down a bit in the e60 as compared to my e34...
New bmw's handle well, but the e90 weighs as much as my five!! If i were going with a track car, i'd buy a e36 328is.

BMW has gone soft, lets see...... 506bhp V10, 7 speed SMG, oh yeah, definately soft.

i can't wait until you finally get your mits on a newer bmw, you'll see that naysaying what is new and what you've never driven is a pretty dumb thing.

If you think electronics and gadgets are going to leave guess what buddy there not lol ever! What they are doing is minimizing the amount of wires needed by passing certain connections through others (ex: maybe your radio so if your radio goes out or u take it out your car can't start, this is just an example) thats why everyone complaints about so many problems in newer cars of any company, if something goes out something else goes out as well. Problems of technology that have to be worked out thats all. [:)]

Me [:)] You should not have vibration, road noise and instability in any car at 100, my truck does just fine at 110. It's a Honda thats why.
Come one guys! If Honda were that terrible, why are they selling so well and why do all the kids want them? BMW's have lost a lot of the special feel they had. I think BMW cars have become a little heavy, a little light steering and a little numb. They are wonderful cars, but they are losing the edge. Not to mention, the I drive has been a disaster. Body style is no longer world class (the last gen 3's, 5's and 7's were beautiful).

I own a 2004 Civic LX coupe (5 speed) and I chose it, because it was the best commuter car I could find for $163/month! I've been impressed with everything about the car, but unfortunately, so was my daughter and she is the proud owner of the Civic. Yes, I've taken it to 110 MPH and the car felt fine. I feel much safer at 110 MPH in the Civic than a 2 1/2 ton truck that can't get out of the way of itself (brakes and handling stink). I also don't like the thought of being in a truck as it flips over and over and over.

I think the consensus is that the new BMW's have lost the edge and the writer feels that Honda's are a better track car. This is what the article is stating. In my opinion: Yes, BMW still builds great cars. Yes, there is incredible technology. Yes, they are still very desirable. However, I also believe that a European Honda would be a better car as a track car.

Why is everyone so pissed its obvious the Honda is awsome. Why be pissed about it?
Because some people on this board are just ignorant BMW fan boys that cannot accept that BMWs are not perfect and that another marque may make a superior car. I love BMWs, but not with blinders on. That and some people have a serious bug up their asses for Hondas and spew venom whenever the H is mentioned.

That's exactly it; "blinders on". I love BMW, but I am not blinded by the fact there are many other auto manufactures that build very good cars.....

I've learned to keep my mouth shut, although facts outweight opinions, I go by what I like. [:p]

I wouldn't mind owning that new Golf GTI coming out in 06' god that thing has me mesmorized [:D]

I think its stupid that BMW wouldn't just run some quiet campaign and fix the stupid problem. If either one is at blame if you fix it, the customer is happy and continue to buy your product even if it had a problem like that, but stretching the problem to big proportions is what makes people angry and not wanna buy a BMW again.
