Interesting, it's the same chassis used on the now defunct Cadillac Catera. Beefed up of course, but that gives the proportions of it, I guess. Haha...
Really? I did not know that. The Catera was essentially some Opel chassis, wasn't it? So, this thing is essentially an Opel with an American LS1 in it.

Now, if only GM would remove the thumb from its butt and create something for Chevy that is similar to this to replace the niche that was filled by the Camaro.

Haha.. true.

Yeah, the Catera is just a rebadged Opel Omega. They use the same chassis on the Holden Commodore/Commodore HSV and Monaro.

Check out the Commodore on cardomain.com You'll notice the similarities with the Catera right away.

In the commercials for it, it looks like it has a sort of SMG like thing in it. Anyone know anything about this?
Your'e thinking about the 04 Grand Prix commercial. It does have Tap shift as an option. The GTO comes with a 4-speed automatic or a 6-speed tremec.

Great engine to start with.....style is OK....but 35 grand is a bit overpriced. Will be built in small numbers. Holden of Australia did do some decent work. Hopefully the price will go down eventually. Nice family muscle car....if there is still such a thing.

Just EXPENSIVE....would rather have the new Cobra if I was in the market for a muscle car again. About the same price....quite a bit more power as well.[;)]
Actually, the price is $33190 for the 6-speed. The interior and ride should be far superior to the Cobra but certainly the Cobra will be quicker in a drag race. The problem with pricing this year is the cars will be filtering in to the dealerships in such small numbers that the dealers can hold to the MSRP. Most mid to large dealerships will probably only get one in every 4-6 weeks. Small dealerships will be lucky if they get 2 this model year. I heard that dealer allocation is based on recent Grand Prix sales.

The GTO looks like a great car for the price, but I have NO loyalty towards American car manufacturers and therefore I wouldn't even consider it. For $33K, I would rather get a fully-loaded MINI Cooper S (about $28K) and use the spare loot to make the MINI even faster. [driving]

I put a $500 deposit down on a GTO back in August. Delivery of the cars has been delayed and the one I ordered probably won't be in until mid February. However, before I advance ordered the GTO, I was looking at the BMW 3 series. I actually came real close to getting one in July. Since then, I have gone back and forth on what I want to do since I'm under no obligation to buy the GTO. I'm strongly leaning towards ordering a 330i now, though. It will cost me about $7K more but I think I will be happier in the long run.

It's a tough decision because the GTO really isn't a Pontiac as folks have stated on here. It's a modified Holden Monaro and according to all the folks who have driven them, the handling is more European and of course the drivetrain will allow it to haul ass. Plus, the sound is really sweet and the interior looks much nicer than anything GM has ever produced. I really have to admit though that the exterior styling is kind of bland.

The only drawback to the BMW is that the next gen 3-series sedan will be out soon. So my $40k car will be the old model in about a year and a half. But the looks of the current 3-series are really beautiful. It's a tough decision. I have been struggling with this for the last couple of months.

Yeah, and at the same time, you have to consider that the next-generation 3-series sedan has a good chance of being ugly, thus making it actually worth getting now. To decide which one to get, you should ask yourself: which car do you see yourself ni more? Which car suits you best? Ultimately, which car do you desire more? That should give you your answer.

The GTO doesnt have the catera platform.........ask the HSV guys from the UK. They can back this up. Theres a picture floating around of the catera and HSV (holden) parked side by side. Trust me the catera is much much smaller. The catera's components are also not as beefed up as Holdens. Looking at pictures from the net doesnt show the actual dimensions.
