both the new gto and those cars have the ls1 v8 from chevy ...

great engine ... the only difference in the engines in the cars above is different cams

didnt get to test the handling =(

Automobile Magazine gave it a very good review - they even said it handle more like a european car. I will definately drive one before I buy another car. For the price, its hard to beat. Since it's RWD, it should handle much better than the GM FWD cars.

i don't care for it too much. as it was said before, i think the looks is too much grand prix alike and i definetly don't like them.
power however is another story and worth to reconsider, but bottom line: NO!

Actually I have read a couple of different revues about the Carrera GT. It is supposed to be an absolutely divine car. A perfect example of what porsche engineers do when they get really bored. American auto manufacturers get bored and we end up with the Focus, or even better yet, the Crossfire. The one thing that I absolutely love about it is the indestructable (theoretically by direct opposing pressure) Ceramic 13 inch brake rotors. As for the GTO, I think that it is an absolute travesty what they went and did to the image of the car. It was a classic, and now it looks like all the other Pontiacs out there. It is almost as bad as what they did to the Malibu.

Great engine to start with.....style is OK....but 35 grand is a bit overpriced. Will be built in small numbers. Holden of Australia did do some decent work. Hopefully the price will go down eventually. Nice family muscle car....if there is still such a thing.

Nice engine...

Just EXPENSIVE....would rather have the new Cobra if I was in the market for a muscle car again. About the same price....quite a bit more power as well.[;)]

The Focus was made by Ford of Germany rather than American Ford. I think we'd probably still have a rebadged Mazda Protege as the Escort if it was up to Ford. Then again, the Protege is better than the Focus. Heh.

the GTO looks a lot like the HSV Coupe GTS except with the pontiac grill[confused]
It basically is, check out the Holden Aussie web site:

http://www.hsv.com.au/main.html

Glad they put the LS1 engine in another car since the F-Body is dead for now. Holden does make some high power versions. Hey, Australia has always liked American V8 engines. I like the Holden style a bit better though.[thumb]

Plus they offer a AWD version....OHHHH!!!! That would be awsome!

Wow, those are some nice cars, why did they have to re-brand it to pontiac[?|]
Because after the Camaro/Firebird were killed, Pontiac needed to have something cool to prevent it from turning into the next Oldsmobile. [;)]

I haven't seen a new GTO yet, but I want to. I think it's a pretty sweet looking car from the pictures that I've seen, and it should have the performance to back it up. I'm still kinda iffy about the fact that GM is calling it a GTO. That nameplate has so much nostalgia/recognition/history behind it. I'm just not so sure they should have put a different front fascia on an Australian car and called it a GTO. I think they should have actually been original and come up with a new name for it. I mean, where is the hood-mounted tach?? [;)]

Did anyone notice the battery in the engine pic? Check it out - it actually has battery posts! GM hasn't used batteries with raised posts in domestically-produced cars for years. They must still use batteries with raised posts in Australia.

I just looked at the Holden SV Coupe4 and there are some subtle differences but not much....I think the low profile wing and Holden grille look much better than Pontiacs wannabe BMW grille.[mad]
