I would not believe what you see on the internet....The dealer (American Tax Free) says the estimates that he has gotten thus fart for pricing base will be 74,000 US and fully loaded will cost around 85-87,000 US. Now this is normally about 5-6 K less than what you pay with out a Military discount. However he has not gotten exact figures yet either, and do keep in mind that this is MILITARY SALES not normal. Germans pay a shitload more for Bimmers than we do in the states due to the taxes....CASE AND POINT....My 530i with my options in the states costs roughly 54K US dollars....Germans (for the same exact car) pay 63K euros about 78k US...CRAZY SHIT RIGHT?

Now after the sticker shock of that M5, I wonder what the number BNW is shooting for on the next M3? [paranoid]
Even with the sticker shock my local dealer has a waiting list for them. The people on the list have to put down a 5k retainer. That's crazy.....

Not too bad, but $1K is much more reasonable. Dealerships usually ask for $5K deposit when they know they're gonna have a tough time selling it if the guy backs out when the car comes in.

Around here they don't have a hard time selling. This Microsoft country. The dealer has a used "03" in the showroom selling for 69k. They sell pretty well.

They were stating the waiting list is long and that is why.

*EDIT* the ///M5 is going for 63k not 69k. It has 11k miles on it.....

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. I have my heart set on that next-gen M3 but there's no way in hell I'm throwing down $5K 1 year in advance just to assure I get one of the early ones. A $1,000 deposit and a pre-contract will do just fine, tyvm. If the dealership says no, I have no problem driving over to the Audi dealership since BMW's new cars usually aren't the sharpest things on the road.

Ok, who got the latest installment of Roundel (official magazin of the BMW CCA). All about the new M5. These guys got ahold of one to play with, God i wish i work there. Heres a quick rundown:

Engine:
BMW F1 derived V10
507 horsepower @ 7750 RPM
383 Lb feet of torque @ 6100 RPM
Stainless steel headers
10 individual butterflies that adjust to accelerator position 200 times per second
The most technologically advanced engine I have ever seen
I just read in another article that it is going to have 520 lb of torque
As stated in Geneva in March 2004 the M5 will have over 500 HP. The M5 will be able to put out over 100 HP / litre. The official specifications are:

 • Engine code: S65
 • 8250 rpm redline
 • 507 HP (373 kW) @ 7750 rpm
 • 520 Nm torque @ 6100 rpm
 • Weight: 240 kg
 • Stroke: 75,2 mm Bore: 92 mm
 • MS S65 engine managements hardware, software and functioning are developed in-house at BMW M
I am more likely to believe these numbers.

i just got my Roundel, (it goes to my parents' home..) and here are some interesting points: no active steering on this one, active road stabilization is also missing since it'll have lower, stiffer springs, anti-roll bars and elastokinematics.

here's a quote for wallie05: "BMW, of course, sees the SMG gearbox as a technical advance, and is somewhat perplexed at the American demand for foot-operated clutch.." (in conversations with BMW AG product director Dr. Burkhard Goschel, Roundel editor Carlson suggested that perhaps Americans see the SMG as being too much of an automatic transmission. "maybe," sighed Goschel, "we never should have given them the 'automatic' options") pg 43 Oct 2004 Roundel.
