"M is for Holy Sweet Mother Of God"

Ok, who got the latest installment of Roundel (official magazin of the BMW CCA). All about the new M5. These guys got ahold of one to play with, God i wish i work there. Heres a quick rundown:

Engine:
BMW F1 derived V10
507 horsepower @ 7750 RPM
383 Lb feet of torque @ 6100 RPM
Stainless steel headers
10 individual butterflies that adjust to accelerator position 200 times per second
The most technologically advanced engine I have ever seen

Transmission:
7 Speed SMG III
Shifts 20% faster than SMG II

Suspension:
Electronically controlled struts (normal and sport), normal mode is said to ride better than a regular 5 series.
Stiffer and lower springs
Most of you may be happy to hear this, no Active Steering

Misc:
0-100 KmPH: 5 sec
0-200 KmPH: 15 sec
100-0: 36 meters
200-0: 140 meters
Price: $124,179 U.S. dollars

WOW, in one year, the M5 became WICKED EXPENSIVE! I Love the damn thing, but for that much, you could just as easily buy a Porsche 996 911 Twin Turbo with 648 horsepower.

I'm in love with it [headbang], all those haters can't get used to BMW's new design. What are you guys gonna do about it!! just complaint and get more sour just try to like it, I did and their all growing on me [thumb]

Yeah well, in the other thread somebody was saying how it is pretty much worse than the new E55 in every aspect. I don't know, I will never own that, either because of lack of money or thinking it is ugly or both, hehe.

PhatBimmer, you are right about that, can't do anything about it except maybe buy older cars and just keep em in great condition which will probably be even more than a new one. Also, how do you access the High Quality vids on flixvault? I even registered for the forum and still can't gind anything?

There's no way that could be the price in USD. Are you sure you're not looking at the price in Canadian dollars? [screwy]

If that is the price, I'd rather get an S55 for the kind of money if I wanted a 4 door sedan. Not only is it a helluva more luxurious than the new M5, it's also faster to 60 by 3/10ths of a second, and probably faster in the 1/4 too. Hell you can even buy an E55 (and save money if that's the real price) and SMOKE the M5!!

yo that freaked me out when I thought it costs $125K...that is a ridiculous price tag. $85K is MUCH more reasonable and is definitely WELL worth it.

AutoWeek also has a hands on review of the new M5. They list the price as estimated $90,000 US, based on Euro 86,000 announced price. They specifically state that BMW can/will adjust the price to keep the AMG as the target competition.

They raved about the launch control and how much fun it is to floor it (the engine revs to exactly 4500 rpm by flooring it in launch mode) and release the shift lever.

By the way, the new A6s are absolutely beautiful. The interior is the nicest I've seen on any mid-size luxury car, and beats BMW's funky and cheap-looking modernist/minimalist interior hands down. Audi did a great job of making the driver's cockpit more driver-centric, as opposed to BMW's new "integrate the passenger" (with a Lincoln Towncar-like dash) philosophy.

Also, when I say the E55 will smoke the M5, I'm talking acceleration times: first to 60, then to the 1/4, and most likey, also to they're BOTH governed speeds of 155mph. The M5s high-revving V10 and 507hp help it go fast in terms of top speed (that's where horsepower counts most). But when you're talking about acceleration to 60, and the 1/4, my man, torque become a critical factor. And I'm sorry to say, the new M5 is sadly "lacking" (at least in comparison to the E55) in that department. The E55 plain and simple smoke the M5. Pull up your best numbers on the new M5 and lets compare.

Mercedes E55:

469hp @ 6100rpm
516ft/lbs @ 2650

0-60: 4.2s
0-100: 9.7s
1/4 mile: 12.39s @ 116.21

The new M5 is a great supercar. But is it the end-all, be-all of Supersedans. I don't think so.
