No where near as pretty, brakes are no where near where the mercedes's are, handeling wise this machine is awesome. And its practical too. While the mclaren f1 is a rocket on wheels. I dont like it =/
While the SLR is certainly a very impressive piece of kit, the brakes have received serious criticism. They're said to have a very non-linear response. The reason is this: the SLR employs an electro-hydraulic system which means that when you hit the brake pedal you're not actually providing the brake pressure yourself. Instead, you're controlling the release from a reservoir of pressure that's doing the job for you. How Mercedes that is. And the result of this 'advanced' braking technology is that the brakes are literally either on or off in the SLR. Granted, they are said to offer stupendous braking ability but they're just not adjustable and, in a $1million dollar car that just don't cut it.
Remember that the Macca is over ten years old now too. But the brakes on it are still unbelieveably powerful and, importantly for a real driver as opposed to the run-of-the-mill auto Merc driver, they're communicative.
Also, I'm baffled that you'd refer to the SLR as pretty... It's a beefy, no f#ckin around muscle car. The Macca, on the other hand, is the epitome of powerful finesse and I really believe that it's shape is a timeless classic.
My own opinion of course. Take it or leave it.
