I just delivered an IS 350. Very impressive! Very bad blind spots (the doors are too tall and the rear door window is too small).
Twice, I accidentally cut people off on a 12 mile stretch of freeway.
We just got rid of our 1994 Lexus ES300 with 210,000 miles and the only major work was a new radiator and coolant hoses (the one under the intake manifold is not a good engineering design). Overall, the car is as flawless as you can get and incredibly quiet too. The driver is isolated from the outside world. No, there is no exhilarating driving experience in the ES, but it is definitely not a glorified Toyota!
Our 540i is a wonderful driving car. Great road feel, gobs of power, smooth-comfortable ride, etc. But it has had its share of repairs and expensive maintenance. I choose to pay more to enjoy the driving quality of a BMW. Luckily, I am in a position to afford the cost of this car, but if I was on a tight car budget, I would be driving a Lexus, Honda, Acura or Toyota.
BTW, we do own a Honda Odyssey and a Civic and they are both top notch, low maintenance, reliable vehicles.
