BMW M5 and Lexus IS 350...

I just delivered an IS 350. Very impressive! Very bad blind spots (the doors are too tall and the rear door window is too small). :( Twice, I accidentally cut people off on a 12 mile stretch of freeway.

We just got rid of our 1994 Lexus ES300 with 210,000 miles and the only major work was a new radiator and coolant hoses (the one under the intake manifold is not a good engineering design). Overall, the car is as flawless as you can get and incredibly quiet too. The driver is isolated from the outside world. No, there is no exhilarating driving experience in the ES, but it is definitely not a glorified Toyota!

Our 540i is a wonderful driving car. Great road feel, gobs of power, smooth-comfortable ride, etc. But it has had its share of repairs and expensive maintenance. I choose to pay more to enjoy the driving quality of a BMW. Luckily, I am in a position to afford the cost of this car, but if I was on a tight car budget, I would be driving a Lexus, Honda, Acura or Toyota.

BTW, we do own a Honda Odyssey and a Civic and they are both top notch, low maintenance, reliable vehicles.

Lol, good point. I totaly agree with you. I have always loved the new bimmers every year they came out, till the last few years. I do like the 2006 3 Series though, I think it looks quite nice. They definatly screwed up the 5, 7, and 6 Series though. Some can look alright with aftermarket parts, but for the most part the design was dissapointing.
the new 5 series ugly? tripppppen!!! i happenned to sit in a 06 m5 recently and that shit is plushhhhhh! the seats feel like they wrap around you, everything is there in position, shift paddles are cleannnn. not to mention my favorite part of the interior.. the top is lined with black suede, oooooh thats niceeeee. and how can you hate on the body styles of the 06 5 series? that curves and lines are sooooo damnn sexy!

^ I have to agree. Not to brag or anything but my dad recently has purchased the new 2006 M5 and he is getting it from LA in a week or so. My favorite thing about the 5 Series is seats. Even though I have not sat in the M5 yet, I have sat in a fully loaded 550i to get the feel of a 5 series. I like it a lot. But overall, the E46 3 series will always be my favorite.

I loved the 5 series' backseats... You should really post pictures of it when he takes delivery, I'm sure everyone would love to see actual upclose pictures of an M5 in the real world.[bmwdance]

haha...

I happened to see a new M5 at BMW of Austin and honestly, it didn't blow me away like I thought it would. But I guess since I work at the dealership and see 500 BMWs a day, the appeal is starting to fade away! =)

I'm still waiting for the 3 coupe and M3, these two will be BMWs hottest cars!

One thing that is absolutely insane about the new M5 is the ventilated seat option (perhaps known as comfort seats, I don't have the time or desire to confirm on the website.)

In any event, don't order an M5 with the ventilated/comfort seats. They are flat as a pancake. When I picked up my M3 the salesman had an M5 on the showroom floor and he asked me to sit in it and tell me if I noticed anything was amiss. The optional seats are worthless in a performance car. A 750 has more side bolstering.
