Obviously you're all totally unbending in your opinion with regard to foglights, as am I. I will NEVER accept people using fog's at nighttime because it's totally unnecessary. Better vision at night, scouting for animals? That's all a load of BS if you ask me. We have lots of animals near the roads in OZ too but foglights don't do shit to spot them out.

If you're driving in the city you do not need anything but your headlights because the cities are well-lit by streetlights (unless you live in a complete shit-hole). If you're driving on the freeway, chances are there are also street-lights there too - no need for fog's, then. So when would you really need them? At the dead of night, in the middle of nowhere with no streetlights around; yeah then you would need more light. If there is no-one around then why not use your high-beams for their intended purpose? Foglights? I'm sorry, but i just cannot see the point of using them.

Like Bimmerballer said, he uses his fogs because they look good. This is what i've been saying all along.

Obviously you all disagree with me and that, to a respectful extent, is totally fine. One of you, in particular, was very condescending in reply to my original statement and i have no appreciation and no time for people that try to take the piss. All i did was state my opinion which, despite the overwhelming disagreement, i still totally stand by. Just don't mock me for what i've been saying as i never joined this forum with the aim of having shitfights over trivial matters. I can do that at the Pub.

how about this, I drive without my fogs on for a month, and when i run over a old rusty muffler that nobody bothered to pick up, and it rips up my undercarriage, ill send you the bill and a kick in the ass.
Mate i don't want a kick in the arse from you - i'd much rather have an intelligent, logical explanation of your opinion.

Please, if you're worried that you might run over a whole muffler on the road then you are seriously stretching the point. If you can't see and avoid that with your low-beams than i'd be worried about your driving ability. Like one of the guys said, foglights cast a short and wide beam so, technically, you should pick up things on the road in front of you by virtue of the fact that your low-beams will light up this section of the road. Therefore, your fog's wouldn't do shit in this instance.

Just FYI: unless you live in one of the really big cities in the US, the streets are generally not lit. Those roads outside of the cities that are lit are generally poorly lit. Furthermore, the only portions of the interstate freeways in the US that are lit are the portions within the cities, and even alot of those aren't lit. The intestate freeways that run through my city aren't lit (except for a 1/2 mile stretch on one of them). Once you get out of the city, the highways are pretty much pitch black. Pretty much none of the roads outside of the downtown area of my city are lit by streetlights. And, I don't live in a shithole. That's just very common in the US.

Soccer mom doing 90 in the minivan cutting across 6 lanes of traffic to make an exit (saw that Friday).

'Tuner Kid' in his white something or other vert' fiberglassed car, bassing out loud enough to be heard for a 1/4 mile, driving 30 in a 45. (saw that Saturday)

People slowing down and stopping at a merge, with a LARGE sign on hand that says 'KEEP MOVING' with 'a**hole' spray canned at the bottom of the sign. (Stop reading a**hole, go!!) Saw that Sunday..

Todays ride home should prove the point as well, I'm sure!

LOL... I agree with you. And some people actually talk about BMW drivers. [nono]

Point gracefully taken. But I STILL don't agree with the need to use foglights unless it's foggy. I think we're all on a hiding to nothing in this thread. I won't change my opinion and you guys (understandably) won't change yours. I think we should all agree to disagree otherwise i will end up going insane.

Hahaha...LOL.

Well, I suppose that makes sense, if ya don't have xenons.

You're always playing the autobahn card on us. 140mph!?! When do we get pics? I WANT AUTOBAHN PICS!!!!! [bigcry]
Sorry, just playin' the cards I am dealt. I can take pics all day long, just does the speed no justice, I had a 45 sec mpeg coming through Frankfurt at 140+ but I could not up load it. Problem is that I am hard pressed to find willing volunteers to ride shot gun and hold a video camera while I am driving that fast. I did buy a new media PC so when I can find a victim to ride shot gun, I will host a viewing from my computer off the DVD player in real time....as soon as I finger out how to do it (intentional mis-spelling). DEAL?

Here's a picture of what the highway I drive on to get to college looks like at night.

And actually, here throughout pennsylvania when you're on a highway with nothing near it driving through HEAVILY wooded STATE GAME area, any extra lighting to the sides of the road is great. So yes, I am spotting for deer. They'll f*** your car up for good. Remember - the extra lights aren't to SEE the deer - its to have light reflect from their eyes. The wider light will provide more of an area for reflective surfaces to reflect light.

I love my high beams though. They'll shoot through a deers head and kill it. At least I can tell myself that until i hit one.

Foglights are specifically designed for FOGGY situations - i.e. when it's foggy (that means when it's not clear) you use foglights in order for other people to see your car and for you to see the road immediately in front of you. If foglights weren't brighter than normal driving lights then they wouldn't have been designed in the first place. They disperse the light through the water particles. Or is this concept too difficult for you to understand. [thumb]
hehehe The concept is too difficult to understand because it is simply NOT true.
Foglights are designed to be low to the ground in hopes to shine under the fog because you can't see any better when you "disperse the light through the water particles." If you think brighter light is better then turn on your high beams and see what happens. Foglights simply are not as bright as low beams. This fact completely destroys any inane arguement you have. I honestly feel that you are argueing to argue and are too steadfast on your point.

To be mad at someone for using their foglights when it is not foggy is crazy. "why is it called a FOGlight if its not for fog?" Why is a glove compartment a glove compartment, a moon or sun roof a moon or sun roof? There are other uses for products thet were originally thought to serve one purpose.

"Over here" we have lots of people using foglights for no other reason than to make thier cars look good and this is ILLEGAL. There is a reason for that. All this shit about having foglights light up the road in front of you at night is complete and utter nonsense. You don't need them at night but if you feel that it's necessary, well, then i suppose you have some sort of an inferiority complex. If you're struggling to see the road at night on the freeway and there is no-one else around then use your high-beams. Oh, and dont forget to turn them off for oncoming traffic.
Nope, not illegal. Foglights help and an added bonus to this is they look good. It is funny that you think that it would come right down to be an "inferiority complex." Seriously? Do you brush you hair in the morning because you have an inferiority complex? yikes man i just don't know about what you are argueing.....

I actually can't be ****ed arguing about this shit anymore. No, i wasn't "arguing to argue", as you so simplistically put it. All i did was state my point rather casually until one of the members jumped all over it. I put my case and i made it quite clear that i wasn't going to change my opinion. If you don't know what i'm arguing then i can't help you because i made my points crystal clear in previous posts. Making your car look like the final approach to Heathrow airport is totally ludicrous. Take it or leave it; i really don't care. And no, i don't brush my bloody hair in the morning.

This was my whole bloody point! They're for fog and that's it! God almighty I feel like my head is going to explode [mad]
my point in quoting that question is that it has other uses, just like a glove box. Just like a sun roof. you can open your sunroof at night, you can put documents in a glove box, you can open your moon roof during the day. Eveything doesn't just do what it is called. If you read this: There are other uses for products thet were originally thought to serve one purpose.

You don't brush your hair... i'm sorry i used that as an example. when you buy clothing, do you buy ugly shet? Usually people buy nice stuff that LOOK nice. better example?

I said i don't know what you are arguing because you keep arguing what people prove WRONG. You just have to read what people post carefully and maybe learn from them. I can see this is getting pretty heated and i don't want to make any enemies. I'm not trying to offend you just open your eyes as to why people use them so you don't have to get so mad at people that do.

focus guys, whats name of the thread ? anyhow, I am generally courteous( signal on lane change, even when im cutting you off. that only because these people ride the passing lane oblivious of all around them. you can flash, horn, tail gate, nothing.

Many people are rude and abnoxious. I live the NYC area and I get plenty of it. My experience the majority of the rude drivers are SUV and especially pickup trucks. Most of the BMW drivers here are yuppy f*ck. I feel that most of the complainer are jealous of BMW'rs. It easier to hate a guy with money and thats what they remember from the incident.

thanks nataku,

i was about to lock this, but since we're back on topic
let me just add that this article is based on 1 guy/girls
VERY narrow pov. here in NJ for example, the suvs are the
ones on your ass, and cutting you off....

but i guess in singapore where bmw's cost 3x as much as
they do here, the ppl feel that they are better than everyone
else on the road.

Holy crap, I posted this as a random funny thread, it got nuclear over fog lights? [confused]

In my area most bimmer drivers are perfectly bland normal drivers, that don't really stand out any different from the other good or bad drivers. I tend to drive courteously, using signals, not cutting anyone off, etc., but I'm sure that someone's probably said "Look at that AHOLE driving too fast in the bimmer." about me.....
