Driving around with fogs on when there is no fog...seems like something a Chevy Malibu owner does to show he made a Delco accessory purchase.

Fog lights are for fog.
I agree, fog lights can be used for fog.........I use mine because at 140 mph, I need all the illumination I can get, not because I have some "ego" trip. I have got nothing to show off here in Germany, every other car is a Bimmer. Here we go with the "blanket" statements again. Not EVERYONE uses their fog lights on un-foggy nights to "show-off" their "delco" upgrades, not to say that their are not the idiots out there that DO intentionally aim their fog lights up to show off their "delco" upgrades. as I stated a couple of posts up.

i use foglights because its better than turning on my high-beams and blinding on-coming drivers... that said, there's multiple uses of foglights, and considering it rains quite a bit where I live over spring & summer they come in handy at moments when you can barely even see the lines of the road

dude i am a pretty freaking relaxed and attentive driver. people cut me off all the time and i just shrug my shoulders. only time i really tweaked was when that s4 cut me off while i had eye contact with the guy, but other than that nothing really gets me. i don't have my fog lights on during the day because its dumb, but they are ALWAYS on with my headlights, they aren't really that bright either.

i usually don't flash my highbeams or honk or anything. only if i'm really really really in some sort of emergency there-is-a-new-episode-of-leguna-beach-on hurry will i run over the elderly.

I want the autobahn :-(

Again, like I said in my post... around here you ALWAYS have to worry about animals jumping out of the side of the road. I was doing about 80 on rt. 15 north (runs alongside the susquehanna river and through the wooded areas). Like someone said, it provides better illumination to the sides (I said it too!!)

Why would I turn them off in those situations? I can't turn on my high beams, and my fogs arent nearly as bright as my low beams (at least, not focused upwards). If it's just a little dark out or if I'm on the highway during the day, I typically turn on my headlights but keep the foglights off.

BTW Dan, I'm very ashamed of your taste in television.

I drive with my foglights on at night because I have them aimed at the road in front of the car and because my sealed-beam headlights really suck. I can't see crap if I don't have the foglights on.

Is anyone asking himself or herself, like I am, about underlying feelings in the survey?

Personally, I think BMW drivers are some of the more restrained and courteous on the road. Okay, it’s just my perception, but I’ve lived in about 6 major cities since I began driving, and for a while we had a dinky weekend place in So. California to help keep our sanity while living in Las Vegas, and according to my experience, I think BMW people are pretty reserved.

I know this is one person’s opinion and therefore carries the appropriate amount of weight but I think there are a hell of a lot worse, on the whole, than BMW drivers.

Well of course, the fog lights illuminate down and out to the sides. That's cuz when light hits fog head on, it's makes it brighter so you can't see through it. Those fog lights shine down and out and up into other driver's faces.

I'm getting a bee-bee gun for the next SUV that comes up on me with those blasted fogs on. Not only do they sit higher off the ground than my headbeams, they shine directly in front. Cheap aftermarket crap that defeats the whole purpose of having "fog" lights.

Maybe you need to invest in some brighter bulbs for your regular headlights. Your use is not why the DOT approved them. LOL.

Regarding this whole fog light issue, I had a similar argument with my Uncle. The only difference was that I told him my car has fog lights on it, and he said that my lights are really not "fog lights." Most people call them fog lights, but they're not fog lights like most other people use them; he told me (and I looked this up online) that true fog lights are a deep yellow color and are so bright that if you turn them on without fog you will blind everybody. He said that the bulbs in my "fog lights" are not fog light bulbs, but rather something with less intensity designed for just seeing the ground directly in front of the car and around you. He's from INdia and he brought me some real 'fog lights' and there is definitely a difference.

I dunno if this clears it up, or is going to be siomply dismissed, but whatever.

Cheers, Sean

Soccer mom doing 90 in the minivan cutting across 6 lanes of traffic to make an exit (saw that Friday).

'Tuner Kid' in his white something or other vert' fiberglassed car, bassing out loud enough to be heard for a 1/4 mile, driving 30 in a 45. (saw that Saturday)

People slowing down and stopping at a merge, with a LARGE sign on hand that says 'KEEP MOVING' with 'a**hole' spray canned at the bottom of the sign. (Stop reading a**hole, go!!) Saw that Sunday..

Todays ride home should prove the point as well, I'm sure!

FINALLY! Somebody who shares my displeasure with regards to inapproriate use of foglights. Using them when it 'aint foggy is an excercise in extending one's ego methinks.
I'm going to sound like a big acehole but whatever.....

you are so adement about being wrong it is funny.

Unless they are aimed incorrectly, they will not provide any discomfort for opposing traffic.

take the time to adjust yours correctly....

my fog lights are much less bright than my low beams. 22 watts i think. seriously if properly aimed fog lights hurt your eyes, you are grandpa and shouldn't be on the road.

i honestly can't get over the fact that foglights are bright for you guys. there are so many people with foglights around pittsburgh it is crazy. i have probably seen two people with foglights in my lifetime that had them aimed incorrectly and they were bright.

truck lights are always bright because the truck is high and the low beams shine into your car (as you know). but stock truck fog lights still are not bright.

It seems to me like you guys are argueing just to argue. Its completely insane.

Can you see black cats at night with a new moon without a flashlight. I think your pupils are way too dilated.

Headlights are plenty bright... but I've had e30's drive towards me and it has never ever bothered me. I never even noticed foglights being brighter than headlights. E30's have some pretty damn good headlights. (at least mine...which are projected low beams with the lense)

The headlights on the earlier years with the sealed-beams suck, just like pretty much all sealed-beams do.

sometimes a cigar is just a cigar

So are you saying you don't give a shit about oncoming drivers? No wonder BMW drivers have such a bad reputation.
im not saying i dont give a shit, im saying that it bugs me when i cant see what is around me at night. foglights cast SHORT and WIDE beams of light from the front of your car, it helps me see what is on the road better and what is next to me, it isnt NEARLY as bright as my brights. how about this, I drive without my fogs on for a month, and when i run over a old rusty muffler that nobody bothered to pick up, and it rips up my undercarriage, ill send you the bill and a kick in the ass.
