Hey fellas, [headbang]
I have a 03 ford cobra with roughly 460 plus horses to the rear wheels and 485 tourque(last dyno tune). its running about 16+- pounds of boost. Anyhow there is fellow down the street with a 97 bmw 850 v12 and he states that there isnt a chance that i could keep up with him from a 35 mph roll up to 3 or 4 tenths of a mile. Now I know very little about his car other then he said he has pulled from a zr1 vette and 96 cobra before.at a fairly high speed roll. This guy wants to put some money on the line. what chance do you guys think that he would have beating me or I to him.

Just to make a comment... Im not a run around street racer and I have respect for BMWs, but this guy is really addiment that he is going to kick my but, just alittle neiborhood rivalry....and I dont want to lose any money [chair]

well what do all you beamer fans think!!!!

Your car will absolutely rape the 850. It's lighter and has 100+ more hp. Anyone whos "Blah blah blah twisties!!" is wrong too, your car has 10 years suspension technology over the 8 series and the cobra handles amazingly well for an american car. He has something like 380 hp and 400 lb-ft torque (I think...) You shouldn't have much competition. A friend up at school had a 03 cobra too, bright yellow. Something like 480 hp...that thing was easily the fastest car I've EVER been in, and there is NOTHING like the sound of that blower spooling up.

Just make sure he doesnt have a turbo hidden under there, they really are hidden.

850 is an amazing car though. He will out brake you. [hihi] Most people don't have 'who can stop the fastest' competitions though...

You'll whoop his ass if you know how to drive your car, but if you have an IRS Cobra modified to the point of 460+hp, then I'm sure you know how to drive. A race from a stop would be even more interesting - what's this 35mph crap? He knows you'll kick his ass off the line.

hahahahaha.

yeah man, you'll stomp him in a drag race. but if its a race to 30 years and the winner is whom evers car holds a higher value.... then i'm sorry. but yeah, i raced an 03 svt cobra once, kept up with him through traffic (yeah, i'm that asshole) but once we got around a clover leaf he was GONE. i held at about 100mph for a while to catch up with him (he was going about 80) and i crept on him and totally jumped the gun just to see what would happen. i hit about 125 and he flew by me with a pretty mean stare.... he must've been going at least 140.

If you're ever going to race a mitsubishi EVO - assuming you have a loud exhaust - just rev your engine and his motor will stall. I REALLY want to see that happen sometime...

The 1997 850 is the 850ci. Some folks were probably thinking the rare 850csi, which was a bit more powerful. The 1997 has a 5.4-liter SOHC 24-valve V12 with 322hp @ 5,000 rpm and 361 lb-ft of torque @ 3,900 rpm and a 5-speed automatic.

In stock form, it should not have anything on a Cobra with 460/485 at the wheels, even if he takes it up to 155 or is chipped to run beyond 155.

If your a skilled and experienced driver, you should easily beat the guy in the BMW 850. Just be sure of what you can do the max and see what his best skills are. Thats my advice...

He's full of it, the LARGEST engine bmw has ever built for a car, is the 6.1 liter 627hp V12 from the Mclaren F1.

That engine is worth more than his car was worth msrp in 1997!

6.8 liters sounds feasable for an american, but a german car? NO WAY. Germans go nuts when they see that americans can only squeeze 400 horse out of a 5.7..
a 3.2 liter v6 in an m3 pushes 333hp..

You'll own this guy sorry, the 8 was a heavy car, that was underpowered, and you have a whole decade advancements in technology on his as well, I wouldnt worry about loosing.

Yeah, the car has a V12, but it's not anywhere close to 6.8 liters. You'll kick his butt. Period.

pretty cool people in this forum- I wont tell any of my cobra buddies about this place..hehe
[hihi] You just have to watch out for certain people - they are very very biased towards BMW's (Mostly because they never experienced any other cars...) Otherwise, yea it's a great place!
