It should be easy, I have done this on my land rover and on my ML, there should be clips holding the top of the air box, and not screws, just open up the clips, get all of em, and you can take off the top of the air box. Now I am assuming that bmw uses clips, but I dont know for sure, did you even look into the engine bay?

Posting the same thread in separate sections only says one thing.. You should not attempt a job like this. Have somebody more qualified install your air filter.

I'm not sure how cross posting indicates one's mechanical abilities...[scratch] ....Changing an air filter is pretty easy, and regardless of past experience, it's one of those DIY jobs that anyone can learn to do with a little helpful guidance.

I have not worked on an E90, but look at the picture below. The air filter is certainly located in the box in the lower right of the picture. It appears that there are two fasteners holding the air box closed. (thanks to Justin/jrt for the pictures)

Posting a thread in separate sections could mean a few of things:

1. Didnt get a response in one section so reposted in another.

2. Realized you posted in the wrong section so you reposted.

3. Both sections are pertinent so you posted in both...

So i guess posting in separate sections says MORE than one thing......does someone driving a maxima posting on a BMW forum say only one thing?

I don't blame him, I asked questions that would probably be considered stupid when I first got my BMW. If I had a brand new BMW and no real mechanic experience, I would sure as hell be asking before I messed something up on a $40k+ car.

Yeah, Im sure we all get responses to our threads within 2 hours or so before starting the same one in another section. [rolleyes]

Don't ask me though, I was helping you guys out. Normally I don't like crap where I eat. If you don't have a problem with post whoring with the same thread in 2 hours in 2 separate sections(maybe more), then that can only say ONE thing about BMW drivers.

I haven't failed to notice that you provided little help in either thread. In his other thread, you told him what he already knew to do, and then suggested he consult someone else. To me that doesn't seem like help. Kirby on the other hand helped him out. So until you decide to help, are you going to keep posting about a non-issue, that nobody else seems to care about?

Now please tell me how kirby's advice enlightened the original poster with more info other then what he already knew? [screwy]

I on the other hand gave more info other then just a pic, and advised at the end to go and let somebody else do it. How is that NOT help??? [confused] If you have to ask a question like this 2 times, you really have no buisness in attempting a job like this. I can't believe Im getting flamed for trying to help out. You goobers wanna let noobs jump all over you, go ahead.. I'll laugh on the sidelines [hah]

"A job like this"? You act like changing an air filter is a huge deal. You open a box, you take the old one out, you put the new one in, you close the box.

FYI, you're being flamed for acting like an elitist douche.

The question asked how many fasteners held the airbox closed. I answered two, directly responding to the question, with a picture to illustrate as such. Apparently the poster did not know the answer, so my response did give her more info than she already knew.

Your posts seem to indicate that you believe the poster is incapable of *learning* how to change a filter, because they asked what you consider a stupid question with an obvious answer.

Not everyone here feels that way, some of us want to help people learn new things.

No, you are getting flamed for bitching about the guy double posting when his first one recieved no real help other than "let someone else do it." I think this discussion is over, as the guy probably installed the air filter already. Now you are simply arguing about something that the moderators/admins don't care about, and neither does anyone else.

Ok dude...we could have gotten thru this without the name calling....I am not a peanut by the way.......we dont reprimand a noob unless they are being a-holes. Any question is welcome....when i came to this board i did the same thing she did and posted in to different spots...thats where a moderator(something you arent) comes in....they can move or delete the double post...insulting a person intelligence isnt the way to get this fixed. You will find out on this board that inflexible, insufferable pukes will get flamed and booted quick......WHERE IS EPJ3 when we need him?(the king of flaming a-holes..LOL)....anyway i dont want you to leave the board as it is good to have the points of view of all...but if you become a problem then what are we supposed to do?

Where were you when this thread was posted twice with your pointless advise?

Elitist douche? Okay.. Are you too slow to realize that my point was that a job like this is simple enough not to start a thread about? First time I gave my advise, second time I saw BS so I called it.. "job like this".. Nice little turn around.

Honestly, whats there to learn? It's pretty obviose non of you have worked on an 06' 330i so how else do you want to help? The help I offered was the best you guys could offer at this forum, so please... You gave the poster the same advice he already knew(which he stated in a thread 2 hours before this one), and gave the same picture that he apparently already had in front of him. You didn't do anything actually. Sorry... [burnout]

Thats not all I said.. Go back and proof read if you can't remember.

Well, Im sorry if I got off on the wrong foot.. I come from a forum where most of the work on cars is done by the owners, and a double thread with a question like this is usually locked, and the poster is banned for post whoring, but not before getting flamed. If you guys believe that changing an air filter needs much learning and is okay to start 2 threads over, then this thread definatly needs to be made a sticky and I, a moderator! Again, if you like crap where you eat.. I won't say another word. [rolleyes]

Im also under the impression that many of you havn't actually seen the posters FIRST thread, which is why I feel there is this much confusion. We're reffering to this thread here http://hotbimmer.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20773
