Don't worry about cold starts, just let it warm up a bit-get the fluids going. The salt and sand on the roads is going to kill you! When you get there compare older cars there to older cars where you live. You'll be shocked!
Cooperstown is nice in their brief summer and fall. great area!, just get ready for the winter!!
Best of luck!

Thanks guys..apparently I've uncovered a bit of a controversy: drive and wash, or buy a beater...

Even though driving and washing will probably be OK, I think my paranoia will triumph and I'll cover the ride up for the winter, and get a beater.

Since I probably won't have a garage, can you guys suggest some really good car covers that I can use? Here is one that I found while surfing the net..

http://www.undercoverauto.com/demo.htm

what do you guys think? Any better examples that any of you can refer me to?
I'm actually going to try and find someone with an empty garage that they can allow me to rent for the winter, but of course it is no guarantee that I'll find such a thing so a good cover might be the only option.

Cheers!

geesh, coming from so cal to the north east.. isn't a rain sprinkle enough of a road hazard out there?

cheap shots aside, i'm more for a winter beater, only because you should be able to pick up a beater for the cost of the winter tire set, if not a lil more. (the real problem is if you really get a "beater" and the sucker poops out on you, on the coldest, highest snow fall day.)

on the second thought, you have a nice cpo, get a set of winters and find a good car wash w/ under carriage wash. [thumb] [:D]
