We got a letter in the mail (my mom did) from the dealer we bought our craptastic blazer from, saying that if we went in, test drove a car, and sat down to at least try to make a deal - we get a $500 toys-r-us gift card. Not $50.. $500!! It evey says "must attempt to make a deal after test drivel, though no final deal and no purchase necessary to recieve offer" [hihi] [hihi]

Here come the Xboxes [hihi] [hihi] [hihi] [hihi]

My mom was like "i feel bad just doing that," so i called her insane, and reminded her how they didn't take care of us and probably cost us more than $500 in gas just driving to the dealer for servicing anyways. Then she said "oh yea... want to go with me tuesday??"

New chevy subject.....did any one see the stats between the Porche 911 turbo and the new C6 vette results?????? The vette beat out the Porche in EVERY aspect except 0-60 times. What is happening (wrong) to German cars and happening (good) to american cars? and for damn near 40 k less than the porche costs. WOW

Surely you jest..........epj3, there are laws against false advertising. Car and Driver would NEVER do anything like that now........would they?

You have to admit that the results for the new Vette ARE very impressive though!!!!!

Yup too bad they only rate the performance on straight line acceleration, braking (which the 911 won), and skid pad (which any old car with good tires and a stiff suspension can do). They don't rate anything worth while, don't take into consideration the fact the porsche is built 10000000x better than the vette, AND it's got a MUCH smaller engine with almost as much output. [bash]

I don't care about price and that's not (from what i recall) what the review was based on.

Its not false advertising - car magazines are all opinion based. They simply did a very poor reivew on the two cars. The porsche wasn't built for straight lines. If it were it would've ripped the vette's fiberglass shell off of the body and into the insulation in my walls.

Well, for most of us, money is very important when purchasing a car. The Vette is a great car for the money. I think American manufacturers are actually building much better cars. CTS, STS, Vette, XLR, 300C, GTO - all are much better cars than they would have been five years ago.

I think its all a consipiracy, they are paying millions to the Germans and Europeans to stay off their backs for awhile then whent the contract is over the Europeans wil be back. Same goes for Asian cars, I'm tired of Lexus baggin on Germany lol like I'd ever own a Lexus :p

I'm j/k, oh yeah you forgot the Ford GT its awsome [thumb]

Very biased and misleading, Eric. Put twin turbos and intercoolers and a dry sump lubrication system on the Corvette, and see what it'll do. I'm tired of hearing this "Chevy only gets 400 hp out of 6.0liters while X car company can get almost that out of an engine half that size." Well, the reason Porsche can produce that much power with an engine smaller than the Vette's is because the Porsche has two big hairdryers, radiators for its intake air, DOHC, 4 valves/cylinder, dual ignition, etc. You can't get simpler than the Corvette's engine.

Yeah, you are right - the Porsche produces the same power out of a smaller engine. But, it doesn't magically do so. It's a much more complex set up and it isn't naturally aspirated.

And, all I've heard about Porsche lately is how crappy the interior build quality is in the 911.

And you talk about the magazines doing a poor review. [rolleyes]

Yeah. The Corvette out-accelerates and out-handles the 911 Turbo and has great brakes, all for the price of what, ~$50K? I'd never buy a Corvette, but it sure is a winner to me. I also find the interior to look very tasteful and much more inviting than the C5 Corvette. I don't care about cheap materials, I'm not feeling up the car, I'm driving it and pushing some buttons once in a while. As long as it looks good and I take good care of it, and it doesn't fall apart on me, I am happy.

how did you determine that the vette handles better, skid pad? there is soooooooo much more to handling than just a skidpad test.

The new LS2 is a DOHC V8, 4 valves per cyl, 100% aluminum, american aluminum. and GM does not have a very good rep with aluminum motors or overhead cam motors.

remember, there is always the quality factor. quality does not only come from the engineering of something, but the materials used.

Actually, the LS2 is most definitely not a DOHC 32 valve engine. It is all aluminum, but it is a 16 valve pushrod engine.

The engine in the Caddy XLR that is also built on the C6 chassis uses a DOHC 32 valve V-8, but it is an entirely different engine from that in the Vette. Are you confusing the two engines?

What chevy gets out of 5.2 liters in a V8, is less than bmw gets out of 4.8 liters - a CONSIDERABLE amount less. Torque is about the same, but the bmw has nearly 100 more HP. Mercedes has even better V8's.

i thought i heard somewhere that it was DOHC, o well. But i still find it amusing that it is still a pushrod motor. so many moving parts and all that hp and torque and a redline of 6500, id only trust it to not throw a rod if it were german.

i used to be in absolute love with chevys, especially the vette, but since ive become a mechanic, ive come to realize what absolute crap GM builds compared to german and japanese cars
