They didnt need a CSL. The M3 is more of a match for the others. Its just that the M3 driver didnt want to compete in the beggining.

Doesnt the 911 compete with the M3 in the GT class?

The track does not have many straight-aways and the twin turbo motor gives the Skyline massive low-end torque for hard acceleration out of the turns. The car is a monster when it comes to handling and the 4WD helps it stick to the road like glue.

For comparison, the Porsche 911 accelerates as fast to 60mph as an M3 but the 911 is still a better sports car simply because it offers an amazing level of handling.

The Skyline GT-R was the CAMERA CAR, it was not really a competitor. It is like throwing a Porsche 911 into that mix of S2000, M3, 350Z, and Boxster....it simply does not belong as it is a higher level of performance car and its purpose was to show you how the other cars (mainly the Z) looked on the track going through the turns.
Also to add to that, the GT-R is AWD, so it will be quicker off the line none the less, they mentioned that the track was semi wet too, so its especially true in that case.

I meant if the GT-R skyline were to compete in there, a CSL would balance it out... some dry pavement would help too as militant pointed out.

In TWO of my posts, I stated how the Skyline GT-R has the advantage thanks to the 4WD and the wet track....even if the track was not wet, the 4WD still helps the car stick to the road.

BMW325i, as I stated before, the Skyline GT-R was intentionally thrown in there as the better car. Its purpose was to be the camera car so it had to be better than the others so it could deliberately keep a close eye on the Z.

The results of the video are no big deal. It's not going to slow down M3 sales just because the M3 didn't win. All of the cars on the track are great sports cars and I know my opinion on any of them did not change based on who won, who lost, etc.

Ive never been a big fan of Best Motoring. They're horribly baised toward Japanese cars and they're drivers are far from great. I had a video of them racing supercars: m3 csl, 360, Murcielago, etc... however, the entire time they're talking about how the NSX is the favorite. The driver of the ferrari was complaining about brake fade after like 1 or 2 laps, the drivers we taking all their turns wide and slow and they looked like they were afraid to really push it.

I'll take a Top Gear review over that any day of the week.

I know that video, it's Motegi Battle. I think I may have posted it up here once. The NSX lost because it overheated, I don't think they were biased. Both Lambo drivers absolutely loved their cars, and the CSL driver loved its amazing handling.

Keep in mind that these videos are not from the Germans so most of the time they use Japanese sports cars. Not to mention, the Japanese have far more sports cars in the sub-$50K price range than the Germans do.

Holy crap, 6000 posts...I need a life.
