Don't knock it till you've driven it. Many folks bashed the X3 with the same rants and now look - people are excited about it and test driving them and guess what? Buying them! BMW need to grow as a company, and take full advantage of new market segments... just like the article said - they cannot just sit back and let MB take over. Wake up and smell the shareholder value.

Fair enough...but BMW has different brands: MINI, Rolls, etc. They should have kept Land Rover (not the cars) for their SUVs. My bro has a Land Rover Ranger Rover...it's freakin' sick cool...and totally BMW through and through (including engine).

BMW should make a new brand for their SUVs, Minivans (God help us), and 1 series. If they want to be a GM then they need to carv out different brands. They are diluting the BMW brand to the point where it has no meaning any more. Buy a 1 series for $20,000 and a 750iL for $100,000+ at the same dealership staffed by the same salesmen. It's like Neiman Marcus opening discounts stores in it's name and arguing all the same service and product is there....like they simply don't want K-mart to gain market share.

Mercedes only exports their top cars to the US. They sell freakin' trucks in Europe.

Why would BMW create a new brand to peddle their SUVs & other new series?! They already have the brand recognition and an image invested. People will go to buy and test drive a BMW minivan/suv, but would second guess a BMM (Bravarian Motor Minivans, LLC) that was 'built by BMW'.

Brand recognition is powerful, and BMW isn't going to toss that away becuase some snobby 7 series buyer doesn't want to be seen in the same dealership as Joe-Bob picking up his 1-series. I'm sure their will be a seperate lounge area reserved for the big swinging d*cks.

The BMW name cannot be diluted if they continue to pump out stylish, fun to drive machines. Even if they look like a minivan.

Mercedes sells crap in the US as well. The ML's are outdated crap, and the C230 is just about worthless (unless you are buying it due to BRAND RECOGNITION and just want to be seen in a Mercedes). Top cars to the US my arse! And what about those G class SUVs running around town to compete with the Range Rover?! Should MB create a new brand just to sell their SUVs as well?

BMM.....LOL :)

How about they resurrect their original name for the crossovers...Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG. Give them their own roundel, in a different color...with mud flaps.

According to the company's corporate goals and strategy: "The Company is thus not aiming to completely cover all segments and concepts within the automobile market. The goal is profitable growth."

That butt ugly mini van could have had me fooled!
