Originally, Hybrid technology was for optimal gas mileage but if Bush cannot improve our gas prices, hybrid is the future for powering automobiles.
I think you mean if he will not improve our gas prices [rolleyes]

Yes but buildinga hybrid for more power is stupid and not the point. Of course it's nice if it is faster, but it's not the reason to build a hybrid.
How is that a bad factor? Do you want all hybrids to be these wimpy cars that if you own one, everyone would make fun of you? This way you get better milage + you can smoke anyone who thinks your car is wimpy for being a hybrid [:D]

How did you get that I said it was "bad"? You did read my last sentence that began with "Of course it's nie if it is faster....."? Aparently not.

Hybrids are stupid. Until they can get better gas mileage than any other econo vehicle (I'm talking more than 9mpg better...), I couldn't justify the much higher cost of ownership.

You can't compare a hybrid SUV to, say, a Honda Civic. And what higher cost of ownership? You pay more up front, but with the Toyota and Lexus hybrid SUv's, you get a faster vehicle. BMW charges thousands of dollars more to get to 60mph a bit quicker...Toyota offers a similar deal PLUS better fuel economy.

Yes but you aren't considering maintainence and simple cost of ownership (ie batteries). I know you personally couldnt give a shit about a car once it's off lease, but the resale value has a LOT to do with what the cars actually worth MSRP. If it ends up needing $4,000 in batteries or electric components after 4 years, nobody will buy them used, which means lease costs will go waaaaaaay up.

Guys look at it this way, Hybrids have a short life; Reason the technology doesn't exist to keep them going and Reason 2 Hydrogen will take over all other energy sources because of its power, efficiency, and its general potential, where does this leave Toyota and Honda with their Hybrids, THE LAND FILL.
