I know Push...lately my faith in BMW has been on the rocks...
I often wonder what my next car would be. Before, it used to be like I had a lifetime contract with BMW!
Took the words right out of my mouth. BMW doesn't have that badass "soul" anymore, they're trying to become too much like Mercedes... actually exactly like Mercedes. I am too wondering what my next car will be, even though it's no less than 1 or 2 years away. However, if I had to choose right now I would definitely go with Audi. I love how their cars have such simple, yet elegant designs, and at the same time maintain that agressive look. They also have really high-quality materials (maybe even more high-quality than the NEW BMWs) and their interior designs are amazing. Another thing that I love about them is that they're great at engineering, just take a look at their new Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), damn thing changes gears in 0.02 seconds.

Don't get me wrong though, for now BMW is still on the top of my list.

I guess i have to step in and say this because no one is putting up an argument.
First off, my disclaimer, i love the new designs and commend the car makers on their job. of course some look like shit (like any cadillac), but then again, everything isnt for everyone.

So you say we are finally getting our concept cars in the factory and off the drawing board. Guess what, these cars you see, are concepts from 5 years ago! Have you seen the concepts of today? Im sure you have, we are still waiting on them.

Look, you cant go and pick a super car as an example for this statement. Super cars have ALWAYS been the 'role model' for a maker's fleet. It will have the best design but at a hefty price if you have a quarter mill in your pocket.

Best example would be the Dodge Venom. The badest, most afordable american race car ever. It never saw the light of day. Instead it was chop shoped to become what the Viper is now and parts of the strealth and intrepid (there is another, cant remember the name). The venom was 1996, and STILL seen on dodge cars today! THAT is what makes for a good concept car.

Infinity has always been a pioneer on eye candy, cadillac is still behind the times and even though austin martin is considered a super car.... it's looked the same for 30 years ffs!!! How can you call that a concept come to reality?!?

My point? It's this, these cars are no further in design than you think they are. We are still in line with the model rules of "how concepts become reality" and it will always stay like this while car makers are smart. Yes there will be twists to the story line that get us some crazy stuff, but that has happened all throughout automotive history.

The cars of today are yesterday's concepts. So on with the drooling over the super cars. [thumb]

Do I have time for a rebbudle, jk.

About the whole concept car thing, your saying that everything is from concepts of yester year but even the few new concepts still follow the same lines, design wise. As for as engines and super cars, yes those will continue to be years in the future. Take the Cadillac 16 for example, its a super car with a huge engine but it wont make it to the streets for years if it ever does but the design is the same of that of current Cadillacs. Concept cars are desinged to be an excercise for a automotive company, seeing what they can do and how the public responds to it. Many things found in concept cars are not going to be found in cars for several years.

What I am getting at is that the new concept cars are styled like cars of today, please prove me wrong and find a concept car that is new (within several years) that looks completely unlike other offerings by that brand.

I would say, the most recent and comendable production of a concept car has got to be the new bug. That was one car that was presented as a concept and developed as a concept.

Lets see, where can i take this... (feel free to add or dispute)(btw, you have to aviod super cars which are ~$150,000+)
BMW's models fall no where near concept status, H2 ... tough one... nope. I first saw it 7 years ago. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, VW, Jaguar all fall on the innovative line but sill not concept production worthy. Audi TT was a pretty good one. The new mustang GT will be (very) short lived concept. Thunderbird was a good one, eventhough it really looks aweful.

Exactly what one of my points was in my first post, companys are finaly getting concepts on the assembly line. The Mustang concept is going into production this year even though it has only been around for 1 year. Ford also has the Fivehundred, and Futura.

Every Concept car I can think of has brought something to some car. Not one concept car is something that has a design that wont be out for several years, those desings are already here.

Let me refrase what I said, Every concept car that stood a chance is styled like some car today. Of course crap concept cars like you have posted didnt make it to the assembly line but that is because they sucked, not that they are ahead of thier time.

OOO, Im sorry you dont like gm, buick.... cheap cars, not bmw, what ever, but my point stands, todays cars are not concepts become reality!!

wooh you found one, I have to say that saturn looks like something that would make it in 5 years. All the other concept cars you posted are crap however, possibly in 20 years when they hover over the ground.
