I must say that this car really is delightful to look at, and I'm glad they've kept the livery nice and simple so that the car does the talking. Like I said in the other thread, I just cannot believe how dainty the rear-ends are on these new V8-powered F1 cars. It's just amazing how good the packaging is.

I love the low-slung and sculpted front spoiler, and those wishbones are set so very low. I hope the car can live up to it's looks, but it is early days and will take a while for BMW to find it's feet.

Eric, I'm not sure about the V8s posting faster lap times. They're generally about 3 to 4 seconds a lap slower than the V10-engined cars so far. What you need to remember is that a lot of the teams are testing with year 2004 chassis' equipped with 2005-spec V10s. Also, there are many 2005 chassis with restricted 2005 V10s. There is no doubt that the V10 cars are quicker. With the V10, there is a critical period between about 13,000 and 14,000rpm where the engine experiences a lot of vibration but smoothes out after this and faces no more vibration problems up to the 19/19,500 redline. The V8's, on the other hand, experience this critical vibration period from upwards of 16,000rpm and it doesn't stop after that. While they still have this problem in a smaller and less powerful engine the lap times will always be slower (unless gains in tyres and chassis overtake the engine losses, but I can't see them finding 3 seconds in only a year of development). Wouldn't you agree?

I must say, though, that these pics rock my jocks and I've already saved them to my desktop [:D]

Thanks for sharing Eric [thumb]

Eric, nice marketing for bwmboard.com

Sometimes I feel sad to see there are only a few threads in other discussion topic areas. [:(]

I guess everybody love to be "General". [:)]

Aye! The F1.06. What BMW should have done right from the start, make their own F1 team (or buy one, which they have done now).

Some info on the car: It's basically an evolution of the Sauber C24. The car got stuck in first gear in its first outing, resulting in the engine overheating and going out in smoke. All the teams have tested their new V-8's and as mentioned, the V-8s are potentially faster than the V-10's (though not quite yet. but none of the teams have run their engines at optimum race spec yet). Testing times over the past few weeks have shown that the cars may be capable of going faster than last year's V-10's but this is also a result from rule changes reducing downforce levels for 2006. As well since tyre changes are allowed in F1 during pitstops again, the rubber both Michelin and Bridgestone use can be of a much much softer compound as the tyres dont have to last 40-60 laps, they only need to last 15-20 laps each.

I think BMW will be a lot more successful (maybe not immediately, but by mid season onwards), because they arent going to be Battling with Williams over design theory, which was the biggest problem with their tenure at Williams. Sauber had always shown that it had the talent to field a decent car, but not the money. Now with BMW bankrolling the operation and the Bavarian input, i'm pretty confident that atleast in the hands of Nick Heidfeld, BMW is gonna throw some surprises at us this season!

Huh? What about the 80's?
That was a Brabham. The BT52 was only supplied with the Turbo BMW F1 engine, much like the supply agreement BMW had with Williams.

And yes Eric, I did use the engine vibration info from ITV-F1! But it's still right!!!![hihi]

Heheh [rofl] You are not the kind of guy who claims to have knowledge about something that he simply read online, so I got a good laugh at the way you put it in your post.

The Turbo F1 engine is the 4 cylinder that dyno'ed at over 1000 hp?

It all looks good..........that 3 series is looking hot like a mofo as well. I hope the Sauber team is a bit more successful than Williams was. I tried to get some details from the guy I know that is on the F1 Engine Design team...........no luck, his lips are sealed.

Haha yeah it's all good mate.

Yeah that's the turbo 4-banger which used the engine block from the 2002!!! During quali the engines were cranked up to maximum boost and the best ones spat out around 1,300bhp! Although it must be said that they lasted about 3 laps on that boost. During races, they pumped out around 1,000bhp which is still pretty impressive from a sub-2 litre 4-pot [headbang]

And yes, I did read that somewhere but it was reformulated through my own words [hihi] [:D]

Actually the Brabham BT52 (and 53) are my alltime favourite looking F1 cars ever, I'm thinking of picking up an 18th scale model of most likely the 53 from ebay but im not sure if i want to yet.

And yeah, as chesty says, that was just an engine supply deal, bmw didnt actually design those cars. Not so much for the F1.06, but for the F1.07, it's going to be the first time that BMW is actually going to do any penmanship on an F1 car that will participate in a season!

The BMW SAuber team did a good job this year so far with the design and looks of it this year. Lets hope they are more successful this season with Sauber on thier side instead of Williams. They orginally did well when they were competing with the Scuderia Ferrari a few seasons ago And lets hope we dont see a French car company win a championship this year. I have to admit... French beating Italian and German= pretty darn sad...
