my car has 1500bhp and does 0-60 in 1.25 seconds.

the horsepower game is stupid, and "high powered" is relative not to what any of YOU people say, but relative to what the police force had used before. i like BMW because they make complete cars, i don't like Plymouth RoadRunners cause they can't turn or stop.

now that i'm done, the artice gets a wiggle [wiggle] cause i like it.
My point was that those BMW's are not fast enough to get the cops into "trouble". So I am disagreeing with the article in that the BMW's have nothing to do with the number of accidents, etc.

The horsepower game isn't stupid...it's real.

So MrE....can you clarify what fast enough is? Or do you mean that it takes to long for their particular BMW's to get to a fast speed......??? My ~170hp BMW regular(pretty much on a daily basis) hits speeds of between 100-136mph.......I think that is fast enough to get ANYONE in trouble......again maybe I am in left field with that but could you elaborate?
This thread has made my mind up......I am going to find a an expensive german dyno and test my car and post the times.......dont think they will be jaw-dropping but better than most would think.......but i could be wrong.

one thing with horse power. the figures that we go by are what the manufacs publish right? not too many people talk about horse power at the wheels, which shows the inefficiency of the drivetrain and can easily kill over 30% of the rated output. (i'm not a huge dyno buff, so i don't really know, but i remember reading about preludes back in the late 90s about 200hp rated, but way way less at the wheels.

my point is: bmw's hps aren't magic, but it seems bmw's either a bit conservative in their specs, or their drivetrain has less loss, so more of it makes it to the pavement. of course other manufacs can be bit generous w/ their specs. (anyone remember that RX-8 fiasco? there is a reason why the auto version is now rated near 40+ hp less than the manual.) numbers speak for themselves. 235hp zhp runs pretty damn close to 280hp G35 how else can you explain that, besides "magical horsepower"

Good point. The ZHP cars are almost, if not equally as fast in the 1/4 mile run as the G35 Coupe. The 330i/330Ci ZHP does weigh 200lbs less than the G35 Coupe and I think the G35C would benefit from wider tires in the rear. But I think it comes down to the fact that the 3.0L engine developes really good low-end torque and the car has all the right parts to make it go as fast as possible. That is the BMW difference.

Surely! Let me use the 3-Series as an example. You have the 325, the 330, and the M3. One model is the faster than the next. If you took a 325 onto one street and did full acceleration, you could get to 100. If you take the M3 on that same street and punched it, you could also get to 100, but you would be there much sooner, and getting there would be much easier. Not to mention that a faster car inspires faster driving. In this case, faster driving can become wreckless driving. You could be tuning down a 25mph road that is normally too short or too tight for a 325 to reach high speeds. But if you're on this same road in an M3, the conditions of the road do not matter. The M3 is such an acceleration monster, you can get to 100mph in no time, and you won't think twice about it either.
So what I am trying to say is that a 177hp BMW is not fast enough for a cop to say "F that" and just punch it and get to an inappropriate high speed to get into any wreckless driving accidents.

au contraire mon frere! (or something like that) In almost any car you can go to fast for conditions or type of road.......You also have to realize that even though Germany is the home of BMW, MB, AUDI, VW, PORSCHE the majority of personally owned vehicles people drive over here are sub-150ps....BMW 318's and 316's....VW Golfs, Polos, Lupos....Audi A3, A4......MB C180's.....Porsche...wait a minute scratch that! LOL So a vehicle with more than 150ps "could" be a slight challenge to an inexperienced driver at first........
