Drivers in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states did worst. Twenty percent of test-takers failed there.
This does not surprise me at all. On second thought, it does - I'm surprised that it was ONLY 20% failure rate.

Having traveled on vacation and business to about 40 of the 50 states, this confirms what I have always thought. Sometimes I want to go postal over bad driving around here. I'm not referring to speeding, just incredibly ignorant, stupid, dumb, assinine crap people do.

I recently saw some @ss**** just plain STOP in the middle of the road when an ambulance came up behind her. Not pull over, not move out of the way - just STOP. [slap]

Nope, Pennsylvania has been named in a trucker's survey as having the worst drivers and roads in the nation.
Honestly, I'm not surprised [rofl]

I saw an incredibly stupid driver today. I don't know what she was doing, i mean, ABSOLUTELY no clue... i was on a relatively highly used back road doing about a steady 55-60 which is an average speed on that road, the only traffic at the moment was about 500 ft. ahead of me since it was around 10:30am. Some lady in a red new vw beetle put her right turn signal on, slowed down, started turning right then all of a sudden jerked her wheel to the left at the last minute to try to stay on the road we were on, I had to nail the brakes (making bunch of tire noise from the abs) and beeped the horn. She didn't slam on her brakes at first and ran off the road almost hitting a sign [rofl][rofl].

I almost NEVER give the finger, I can keep control of myself, but she could've caused a VERY serious accident - My sunroof was open and I just couldn't help it (i'm pretty sure the tank (aka e34) slamming into the drivers side of the beetle would hurt her a HELL of a lot more than it would hurt me...). Nice to see that California is right down there with the east coast. Not suprising since so many people move out here from the northeast.

Almost every day I see someone driving like an idiot on our roads here and usually it's someone in a beat up old car who doesn't care if he damages it.

There was an article in our paper recently that said that some of the most dangerous drivers here are now teenage girls (used to be boys). Anybody else notice that???

I know the "risk rating" of teenage girls driving has gone up, so I guess that is true. Here's an example - a few years ago I saw a late teen/early 20s girl driving at 60 mph while CURLING HER EYELASHES. Think about that!!!

I cannot believe we, Washington is the second from the top! I have seen more ignorrant drivers here than all my time in Idaho or California. OF course Idaho did not do bad either. Everyone in Rhode Island needs to be suspended!

I'm surprised California scored above 80. And yeah, I'm not surprised about girls. Boys have always done stupid things, but that's due to overconfidence and aggression. They know the risk and take it anyways. Girls are different tho. Their bad driving comes from cluelessness and being oblivious as to the danger. Stuff like not paying attention to the road. Doing makeup in the car, chatting with friends, and just not knowing the rules. I knew this one girl who always turned left at an intersection as soon as the light turned green. Didn't matter if the street had a dedicated left turn lane or not. She just went. I guess she was taught on a road that had a dedicated turn lane with it's own traffic signal and she just kept that practice wherever she went. Oncoming traffic had to slam on the brakes and she never noticed the honking or whatever.

*looks at emile.*

I definitly agree that there are some drivers who dont deserve to have a lisence. The drivers test should be a lot more rigorous, the written test I can take blind folded and still get a perfect score. In poland there are 100 questions you must answer, not only that, in the road test you cannot make more than two mistakes... If we had more strict testing we wouldnt have morons behind the wheel..

As we have discussed before, the difference between US and Europe:

Europe = Privelege and honor to have a driver's license
USA = God given right to have a driver's license, I deserve it, give it to me, damn it!!!

And these statistics prove it.

The problem is driver's education has failed in recent years. I remember when I took it, 1969 ugh, we actually discussed traffic laws, rules of the road, braking etc. Today you would be surprised how many young driver's I had stopped in my career who had no idea what the law was regarding the traffic violation they had just committed. And not to just blame them, but attitudes have a lot to do with it and in this world today every driver demands their piece of the road, is rude and un-yielding. Common courtesy is no more. Present company excluded!

I'll tell ya my highschool drivers ed class was totally useless. First off it was taught by the most cluless GYM teacher. The class was basically sit down, watch a video that shouted statistics at you saying how you have a million percent chance of dieing in a car accident if you tail gate, speed, or whatever. They never ever discussed actual road rules and how to use common sense.

Fortunately a few of us were born with an ounce of common sense...

Of the tri-state area, I have to say New York (NYC and NY state) has the WORST drivers I have ever seen. I live close to NYC and NY state and any time there is a New Yorker on the road, he/she has poor driving habbits. New Jerseyans drive fast, but we're very courteous and we have good reflexes, haha.

Exactly what I mean. At least you are intelligent enough to know it and admit it.

Hey hey hey now... I drive around New Jersey a lot with my New York plates and I have exceptional road manners. I have noticed that New Jerseyans tend to exhibit symptoms of difficulty staying in their lane, forgetting to use turnsignals, and often racing their cars to get absolutely nowhere. Today I had a Nissan floor it off the toll plaza only to slam on his brakes to crawl behind a semi taking a turn at 25mph, all that gas and in the end I was right behind him with my feather-foot.

But I do admit New Yorkers are no angels, I have a bad habit of sitting in the left lane doing 75-80 and letting SUV's tailgate me to the point where they switch lanes to pass and I gradually accelerate with minimal effort as they gun their gas guzzling V8's only to inch forward slightly back beside me till they eventually get back where they belong... (to avoid rear ending the slower traffic in their lane) behind me.[hihi]

First that's incredibly dangerous, and I believe that would get your ass kicked around here...
