I guess that this news belongs in the general car chat, especially if you have or are planning on adding bluetooth to your BMW.

Sprint appears to be selling their first bluetooth phone, check the links here, and here.

There seems to be little information on this, but I ordered mine yesterday by phoning;

Cingular has been selling them for a couple months. A friend of mine has a Sony Ericcson p800 that he has had nearly a year. He's on AT&T but he didn't get the phone from them

same here. I have the Sony Ericsson T616 for ATT GSM, and it has blue tooth. in fact the T616 is one of the most advanced phones under $400.

I like the design of the T616 sold at Cingular(ATT customer service sucks) its bluetooth. Does anyone here use that bluetooth system in there car right now?

I found this link it says 2001 and up :'( hopefully will still work in my car:

If it does I'll be willing to switch carriers (verizon right now) to Cingular, theres nothing wrong with my Verizon service, just that all the phones cept for the v60i which I have right now(and is an outdated non-color phone) look ugly. I'm a sucker for good looks ;) just superficial when it comes to my toys. heheh

Though there is that SLR of phones coming out next year, the Motorola v600 one pimp ass phone: http://uk.gsmbox.com/news/mobile_news/all/95175.gsmbox

http://www.mphone.co.uk/Motorola/motorola_v600.html

which they still don't know which Carrier is gonna take it, its probably going to be a $400+ phone however

so with an unlocked phone how does the carrier thing work? Like I read something about UK phones unlocking their SIM's or whatever and are carrier free.. but then how are you billed?

unlock simply means that you are not stuck to any carrier. especially if you travel alot then you def. want a unlocked tri-band phone. With that, whereever you go, all you have to go to the local phone store (in asia local 7-11 stores will do). you pay like 20 bucks and you can get a local carriers sim card with your own number and with 100 minutes or more. pop that in your phone and you can start using it. Its that simple. You simply buy minutes when you need more. (similar to the current go as you pay phones).

As for in the US, with unlock phones, you can pop in any sim card from any carrier (ATT, CINGULAR, etc.) and you will be able to use it, since its not locked to any particular company (thats what companies here do to keep their customers and milk some more $$ from you). If you do not travel much out the country and is satisfied with your carrier, then just get the free phones from the companies. but if you travel quite a bit, its worth the money to buy a good tri-band phone (some times not even offerred in the US) ... may be expensive to buy at first but worth it in the long run!

I have a Siemens S56 with Bluetooth and a Parrott CK300o Bluetooth handsfree kit. It automatically mutes the radio for incoming and outgoing calls and has one touch voice dialing. There was no indication that BMW was ever goinig to make a retrofit bluetooth kit for my '99 and this is cheaper anyway.

The phone I am holding out for is the V600, expected to be the phone for 2004. It is top of the line, has every feature imaginable. I actualy have been waiting for this phone for over a year, ever since the first blurb I was hooked. It is the only phone that has a metal case, I have a v60 and man it is nice to have. I drop my phone all the time and it looks like new. Here is a link to Motorolas site that talks about the v600 http://www.motorola.com/mdirect/hellomoto/experience/v600/flash/index.shtml

Bluetooth rilly isnt new, its been on phones for over a year now. In fact, Sprint is the last company to get bluetooth so actualy they are behind the times, sorry to burst anyones bubble.

Not to brag but I know everything there is to know about cell phones. I know every phone available inside and out.

Here is the list of top phones for 2004 (note how they are not numbered, certain phones fit people better thain others, the ones listed are top of the line, also certain phones are only available with some service carriers):
Motorola V600 (Future model)
Motorola V400
Motorola V300
Motorola MPx200 (PDA phone)
Sony Ericsson 600 series (many different versions available, all are excelent)
Sony Ericsson Z900 (PDA phone)(future model)
Siemens SL56
Siemens S56

You may notice that none of the phones above are available for Sprint, mostly because Sprint phones are all the same and usualy not as good as the ones above. Sprint has exclusives with Samsung, and LG and I have never been satisfied with their build quality and tipicaly they are very bulky. Verizon also has the same exclusives except they do carry some Motorola phones, those are the only good phones they have.

If you have any questions on a phone feel free to ask me. Like I said certain phones fit certain people. Do you need a pda? Do you want a flip? Do you need longer battery life?

I'm just looking for unlimited internet access with a mobile phone. Does anyone besides Sprint offer a plan without spending $100 a month or paying per minute charges?
