Read the one before that too....ever noticed those goofy "Speed dection devices" signs...well they can't pull you over with something like 500 feet of those either....we start a campaign to put more of those up along the freeway! LOL.
I saw a cop right next to one of those active devices and witnessed him pull someone over. Lucky it wasn't me, i was following the guy... didn't slow because my detector was going off from the sign.

In my bimmer, 64 in a 45 zone

and my buddy got a 50 and 1/2 in a 25 in my car.

we both fought them and they were reduced to 5 over no points....

got pulled over for peeeeeeeling out like mad once and racing off as fast as i could in the bimmer. Started running from the cop but there was another cop sitting at a red light i was about to blow.... I just stoppped at the light and acted like nothing happened. Got pulled over by him, later the other lady caught up and then a few more cops showed up later. (Yes it was a dumb move) No ticket. Told a lie that i'm not neccesarily proud of that people threatened to hurt me back at the light at which i ripped tire.

But i guess i got the ticket later that year when i got pulled over for stopping a bit past a stop sign.... Cop lied in court and i had to pay a fine but took off the points.

Back to the point... i speed a lot. (when it is safe of course) Some day i'm sure i'll pay for it through tickets and insurance rates.... (not yet though) I am pretty good at spotting cops and i have a old cobra radar detecter mounted behind my grill with the interface shoved between my seat and the center consol. It works pretty well, completely conceled and i got it for free!

The first ticket that I ever got was when I was 14. It was for inattentive driving and no police officer even witnessed the driving. It was based off of a complaint buy another lady in town (who really disliked my family by the way) about my cousin and I racing our trucks down the road. Part of the problem, I think, is that it was popular to put glass packs on your truck or take of the muffler. Neither one of us had a muffler, and this is where I think the "racing" part came into play. Later that day, I parked right across from the police station to get a pop when one of the cops came out and asked me to come over (my cousin was already there). My cousins court date was two days later and mine was in another two weeks. My cousin pleaded guilty so I always figured that there was no way I could fight it plus, if the cop wanted to get really nasty, he could have busted me for not having a muffler, broken tail light, and studded tires (not the snow season).

My second ticket was also for inattetive driving and was pulled over by a state trooper (20 miles of road and the only car comming from the other direction just had to be a cop!). He clocked me at 88 in a 55 (I'm glad I was actually slowing down because of an oncoming car, we won't say how fast I was really going [paranoid] ). This was a Fryday night and my court date was the following Monday at 9:00am. I got 2 day jail (suspended), 1 year probation (2 days in jail would be reinstated if I got another moving violation) and a $285 fine for that one. My parents were left town later that week and weren't home when the paper came (all traffic tickets were listed in the local paper) so I thought that I had gotten off scott free as far as my parents were concered, but the county clerk stopped into the real estate office where my mom worked and asked her what she did when she found out about my ticket (oops). (Big Daddy - this all happend in Idaho)

My last ticket was here in Illinois, and I wish I knew what I know now. I was driving about 60 in a 55 middle lane with very light traffic at about 2:00 in the morning when a car comes flying up behind me. I moved over to the right hand lane to get out of the way, but he moved over with me and got right on my bumber so I sped up a little affraid that he was going to hit me. Turned out that it was an unmarked car and had pushed me up to 67 before he turned on the lights. He was really a prick as far as I'm concered and wanted to search my car so I let him. I ended up in a 20 questions game with him since he found a pair of hand cuffs and my gun belt in the back (I was working as a securtiy gaurd at the time), and got the ticket.

[paranoid] I now, noramally drive 70-85 on the tollway when traffic is light - normally, I only get to go 5 - 35, any faster and you would run into somebody.

"It depends on the area. In SoCal, the general rule is 70 and under, not a chance. 80 and under should be ok as long as you gradually slow down to 75 if there's a cop. Above 80 is when it gets risky.

Norcal drivers generally seem to drive slower."

[wave] Wow great response. I just expected a few replys. I agree with codex57 that we are a little slower in northern CA (I'm way up north). Going over 80mph on I-5 is asking for it. When I go to southern CA or even down to the Bay Area the freeways are going well over 80 and bumper to bumper sometimes.

The CHP seems to favor out of staters in my area. I've seen them pull over people with Oregon plates much more readily that CA cars going the same speed or faster.

I'm surprised you let him search your car. I would have given him a big NO if any cop asks to search my car. I never have anything illegal in my vehicle, but I don't care how suspicious or how much of a prick the cop is, he's not searching my shit without a warrant.

we get away with driving 80 in a 70 over here but they r about 2 stitch us up with a new points system where if u r just over the limit they will get a small fine and 2 points but if u r over by a lot they will shaft u big style so it looks like zero tolerance 4 us the goverment needs more money by the sound of it

In the Sacramento/San Joaquin area, I'd routinely go 80-85. Not many other people drove that fast so I knew I was apparently pushing it for the area (in LA, most of the freeway would be going that speed).
In my home area, it's 70 typically. 75 is the top speed and at that speed it's 50-50 - you may get pulled over.

I have driven the LA - Bakersfield - Modesto section of the SJ Valley a number of times. I routinely go 80 - 85 except in the areas around the cities, and at the Grapevine. The Grapevine is about the only place I have ever seen police on a regular basis.

There are some nice 2 lane roads that run parallel to the 5 and 99 in the valley through the farmland. Sometimes they are faster than the freeway - I have driven sections of those roads where I did not pass another vehicle for 30 to 40 minutes in either direction.

Knowing what I know now, I would have requested his supervisor and let him explain to his supervisor his pc to search my car and the manner in which he pulled up behind me (ticket also stated speed was obtained by pacing). Though it might not do any good since it would be my word against his.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Sounds like you really just got shafted on that whole encounter.

I was often in that area cuz my g/f went to pharmacy school in Stockton. I won't mention how fast I went in some of those real deserted areas. Particularly at night when even trucks are scarce. And in my old Civic no less.

There's a pharmacy school in Stockton?? I thought Stockton was home only to cows, slaughter houses and oil field roustabouts. Isn't Stockton a rough town?

It's like a bipolar city. Half the city is incredibly scary. The other half are these huge houses (like 8 bedrooms and stuff), manmade river connecting these houses in a gated community, etc.

It all depends on traffic, road and weather conditions and my mood but usually I drive in 70-80 range, as long as you are going straight keeping the car in the same lane you are relatively safe. But it depends on highway also, I think the fastest highways in Bay Area would be 280 and 680. But the fastest overall highway I ever drove was interstate 15 Las Vegas - Los Angeles. It's a straight road in desert. Lots of locals on huge trucks driving there like crazy about 90-100mph and above, I couldn't believe it, I had to drive with the same speed not to be left behind by some truck with trailer. It seems like there is no police at all on the part of this highway that is closer to Vegas.
But going fast straight on the highway is not as much fun as going fast on some curvy mountain road, there are lots of them in Bay Area. My favourite would be CA 84 portion between 280 and 1 (coastal highway). Another great curvy road is California Highway 9 but it's too far from me, I drove there just couple of times.

Usually cruise at about 80 on the interstates here in Connecticut where the limits are generally 65mph. Have not yet pulled over in the Bimmer, but got stopped a handful of times in my '98 Chrysler Sebring convertible for doing between 10 to 15 mph over the limit. Must've been the stock gold accented rims that got the unwanted attention! LMAO [rofl]
