Sorry to say BMW, but it's time to pull your head out and save yourself.

I love BMW but they do not appear to have their act together and there is no reward for stupidity. I think BMW is being very stupid and will pay a price in the future if they don’t change fast.

This may seem harsh but I think the false sense of security created from increased sales may cost BMW down the road. It makes me mad to see them almost stagnant compared to other manufacturers.

No offense intended to anyone here.

Check out this article.

The Spies find 'Weapons of Mass Destruction'?
10/7/2004

Mercedes-Benz is readying one of the biggest product offenses in automotive history during 2005 and 2006. The company has been quietly putting the final preparations on some of the most anticipated redesigns and totally new models, in multiple product segments.

These new models should help them become the hottest car company in the next two years.

The CLS, New S-class, New M-class, R-class, G-class, New CL-class and others will be leading the charge.

The Spies predict that the CLS and New S-class will be the 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' that will be too hard for the competitors like BMW, Audi, Lexus and others to defend against.

The next S-class will be nothing less than spectacular (we should know because we've been in the prototypes) and will change the luxury sedan market (for the better) again!.

If you think the current unit is a beautiful design, you'll lose it when you see the 06' version!

They make everything out now look twenty years old.

AND when you see their interpretation of the multi-layer trunk lid, you'll say to yourself-‘That's how BMW SHOULD have done the trunk on the Seven'.

Look for the 'S' to absolutely SMOKE the 7-series, A8, Jag, and Lexus from top to bottom.

Even the refreshed 7-series will be unable to fend against this next supercar.

Some options on the next 'S' that kick take everything up a notch:

Next generation night vision system
Next generation laser cruise (it will be able to crawl in bumper to bumper traffic so getting stuck in a jam won't be as big of a hassle as it used to be)
Traffic sensitive navigation system
Next generation 4Matic- Rumors say it will be standard on ALL S-Classes
Exterior protection for pedestrians mounted in the front bumper
Quality levels and reliability of Benz' of old
Full glass panoramic roof option

I can't wait...it will be one of my next cars.

And sources tell us, that Mercedes showed the next CL-Class to dealers at a meeting during the summer…The new CL is supposed to be one of THE most beautiful cars EVER sold to the public.

I suggest you get on your dealers interest list now because these bad boys will be HOT!

Problem is the price goes up on these and they sell a small amount because of that, and then GM takes the technology and incorporates it in they're products and they sell millions.

Hmm, I have to see it first. To make a statement like that is pretty arrogant considering beauty is in the eye of the beholder. MB does not know what everyone thinks is beautiful. I bet they are going to very beautiful, but to make that statement is over the top IMO.....

Agreed.

I would also like to know the quality differences. For me it would be things like the performance and fit and finish for the price to sway me. And of course quality because I hate changing friggin fuses all the time.

Yea... 15 years later... with crappy results.

Anyways...

I think it's good. I like mercedes. If they make a kick ass car, there's now way BMW will just sit back and keep trying to sell their new radical designs. They are going to redesign, re-engineer, and make THEIR cars even better. It's called competition. If there were no competition, then would BMW, Audi, Lexus, etc. have ANY reason to continue building quality cars, or any reason to put money into R & D??

I think BMW will be back at top when the new designs (e60's and etc.) are replaced. They've been at the top for the past what, 20 years? I can't imagine there being any reason to change that.

Exterior design aside, as a whole, BMW makes the best handling cars on the road. MB doesn't. When I was shopping around for a car, I didn't even look at MB. MB cars are just not passionate enough for me.

BMW needs to address quality issues not design. I know many of you don't like the way the new Bimmer look, but I think quality is a larger concern. There is simply no excuse for weak window regulators and rocking seats.

Wow, bmw makes the best handling cars on the road???

Have you ever heard of "Porsche", "Corvette", "Ferrari", "Lotus", or even "audi"?

The higher end (AMG) mercedes aren't necessarily lacking on handling. It's a less refined feel - but that's not to say it doesn't handle as well.

Mercedes is going to have to do a hell of a lot more than make beautiful designs. Good looking cars have been there strong point for the past couple of years (the new SL, E, CLK and SLK classes are stunning!). It is reliability and resale value that is killing them. Look at Consumer Reports, Intellichoice, AAA, German ADAC...Mercedes scores at the bottom of the list. Kia, Hyundai, Jaguar, SAAB and Land Rover are more reliable than MBZ.

Doesn't matter how beautiful the new S or CL class is.....the new owners will be waiting in line at the service Dept, just like the rest of MBZ drivers.

BMW might have some minor (and yes, very annoying reliablity glictches)....but compared to MBZ in the past 4 years....BMW is Perfect!!! Trust me!!

Me:
as a whole, BMW makes the best handling cars on the road.
Porsche doesn't make sedans.
Corvette is just ONE GM car.
Ferrari doesn't make sedans, yet.
Lotus?
Audi is close, but still lacks

What about lotus?? Lotus build some of if not THE best handling cars in the world.

Anyways, I think a more appropriate thing to say would be "for what they ARE... bmw builds some of the best handling cars in the world"

The S class, maybe. It's competitors don't exactly inspire desire for various reasons.

The CL? I'll have to see it to believe it. Have yet to see a gorgeous CL. Each generation just gets worse and worse IMO.

The CLS? Please. That car has no purpose other than being different. MB drivers tend to be a conservative bunch. The CLS is not gonna win Mercedes any big sales awards.

Mercedes has the styling down. They're dropping like a rock cuz of quality concerns. Both in the use of materials and reliability. If they can fix that like the article claims, they may reclaim the prestige they had in the 80s and early 90s.

somebody, caugh *bangle* caugh, must've thought that the e60 was the most beautiful car created. sounds like someone was wetting his pants writing that article. i like the way the new e class looks over the e60, but looks aren't everything, even if it does go a long way.

filing this one under: i'll see it when i believe it.

no point in nit picking over word useage lol.
that "article" is of a level my 3rd grade brother
would write. what is the source?

merc may very well be bringing these new models
out but they'll cost quite a bit

bmw mean while has released its 1 series in
europe and sales are up 15%. that's just
ridiculously high.

i have an amg, and it does handle well =]

All of you seriously need to go out and drive some of these other cars...

Lexus, Infiniti, etc. all have cars that (in some cases if they weren't FWD) I would probably consider over the new models of BMW's. Better price, same quality, almost the same driving experience.

I have and I still like the ride of the BMW's better. This is not to say the newer models from the other companies wont change my mind in the future, however as of this time I like the BMW's product....

P.S. the newer BMW's are not that bad to look at. I like the new 5/6 series. The new 6's drive incredialby nice. I friend just bought a 645ci and what a car it is. It drives so so nice....

I just purchase a car last month. I drove several cars. If I had the extra money to spare, I would have chosen BMW.

The article is bogus and probably written by someone on MB's payroll.

Of couse the key word above is almost.

The problem is that many of the cars are FWD. Although I test drove a FWD car, I quickly dropped from my list of possible purchases.

That's not true. Most MB owners just don't get the weird options like laser cruise control, massaging seats, keyless go, etc.

BMW is at the top of what, exactly? In the US, American cars RULE the roads by a RIDICULOUS amount. It's only the East and West coasts where we "broaden our horizons". If you drive a German car in Detroit, you will be harrassed.

Lotus makes some of the most finicky (unreliable) cars on the road, they are worse than Ferrari. The Elise is a super light piece of shit on wheels, that's pretty much the only reason why it's so good. But as it is barely a car, nobody is really buying despite rumors of "dealers having a 2 year waiting list". The Esprit V8's old design simply doesn't sell and costs a lot compared to what you can get for the same price.
