Yeah, I really love the RX-8, as well. Styling, handling, and a smooth 9,000rpm-redline rotary engine are all nice features. The only downside to the rotary engine is the lack of torque, and the WRX STi is still the performance champ.
The WRX STi! Porsche costs way too much for real consideration. The 5 shouldn't be on there at all. The Subie is AWD so you can have fun in any weather condition. Plus, you can take more than one friend along for the ride unlike most of the other competition. Best of all, it's only $30,000 and aftermarket parts of cheap and plentiful so you can afford to have some fun with it.
The RX-8 is just too weird. I don't dig the looks (b/c of those rear doors... ruined the shape). Plus, it uses a rotary engine so modding it takes more effort cuz you have to find someone who specializes in it.
Although many people here think the 530 shouldn't be on the list, A LOT of people must have thought differently. The first vote was held back in October, and these are the TOP 5 of all the new cars in the past year, so a lot of people really think the 530 is nice.
My vote goes to Porsche, even if it is out of the "normal" price range.
