Road & Track Top 5 New Cars - 530i

Road and Track is doing a Reader's Choice Best New Car for 2004 competition. The new 530i made the final five! I saw the program on Speed TV tonight, with Jay Leno as guest evaluator, and checked out the web site. The cars are:
BMW 530i
Mazda RX8
Nissan 350Z
Porsche 911GT3
Subaru Impreza WRXSTi

As the GT3 IS the top dog of them all, i think the RX8 will have it and deserves it.

It tops the charts on stylish new design, has one of a kind engine, offers features not many others can compare, and probably gives more bang for the buck on a fun factor.

Honestly, I hate to say this, but I have no idea why the BMW 530i was on that list. It certainly does not to be there at all...the M3 should have been in its place, not the 530i. All the other cars are sports cars, yet the 530i is in there...give me a break....where's an M3 when ya need one? [???1]

I agree - the 530 is out of place in this matchup - it's the oddball. They should have at least put the 545 in the lineup, but even then, it's a very different car from the rest of them.

subaru wrx sti . . . for 30k 300hp and awd. . . . gt3 is awesome but to get such a good car for 30k i vote subaru

Okay, well here's my vote:
If the M3 was in that list like it should have been, I would vote for the M3. There is nothing quite like it in the world at its price tag. But since it's not there, I vote for the WRX STi...crazy performance for a $30K price tag. The only problem is, you should factor in another $1,200 for a stereo system (doesn't come with one).

The poll is for the best NEW car of 2004, not the best car! If you are voting for another car because of looks, for gosh sakes the Subaru is about as ugly as they come!

exactly, its new car. i'd vote for (i actually can't remember if i did vote) for the gt3 or the STi, its hard to argue against either car.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Porsche 911, but if I were to vote for a 911, it would have to be the 911 twin turbo, not the GT3. I would vote for the 5 series if it was a 545, but not the 530.

Oh, my bad...I guess that's why the 530i is there.
Well, honestly I really wanna say the Porsche 911 GT3 because it's such a sweet car...I love that 380hp flat 6 NA engine and Porsche handling and braking, but I know it's not realistic because of its price tag. So I still say the WRX STi. It looks mean as hell, AWD, 300hp, superb handling, superb braking. For those of you who don't like the way it looks, you really have to appreciate rally racing/rally cars to like the looks of the WRX (STi). Either way, looks or no looks, there's no denying the WRX STi's performance.
