It was not "standard" on the e36. I was moaning about how come it doesn't go down, and my buddy put some / replaced some part so that it does it now. It looked really easy. (Only took him 5 minutes once he took the door panel off.) I can ask him what you need and how to do it, if you want. But it doesn't move the sunroof; neither to close nor to open. Eh.
