I picked up my car today and I was quite surprised at the handling and ride. I hadn't been able to drive the X-Type with the sport package and a 5-speed manual. The steering is much tighter than the regular X-Type. The steering is very tight and the ride feels stiff (in a good way). Steering is very predictable, but it does not have the "feel" of my traded in 5 series.

Very cool. Is the monochrome treatment of the exterior and lack of chrome trim part of the sport package? My uncle's X-type has chrome trim all over the exterior. Congrats!

Thanks everyone. The X-Type wasn't my first choice but I really like it a lot. It's a great driver.

I haven't compared specs, but it seems to be just as long. The back seat seems a little smaller, but the trunk is bigger. It feels like it's smaller. It's not near as tall.

Tool Fan - Why are you selling your E60??

You said how there was some deciding factor in your final decision...care to share it? I'm guessing you know someone who works for Ford and they got you a really great deal or something? Obviously there was something about the price of the car that you just couldn't pass up because you don't seem very enthusiastic about it. The car is a much better vehicle than how you are presenting it....enjoy it !!! [:D]

Agreed. Sure I like BMW, but after a dealership visit yesterday and looking at the stickers I'm not entirely sold that this is the only way to go mainly because of the way they seem to ration HP like the engine core is pure platinum.

A 185 HP 525 at $48 or an X Type at $38? I think you made a good decision

Yeah, seriously. BMW's engines are great, but the whole "My car's 184/225hp is better than you car's xxx hp" just doesn't hold water anymore when the alternatives are kicking out substantially more horsepower. The argument also used to be that BMW's engines are great at 60+mph, which is true, but so are the competitors' engines.

But I don't compare the X-Type to the 5-Series. In my mind, the X-Type is a competitor for the 3-series and the S-Type is a competitor for the 5-series. The 5-series is just a bigger more expensive sedan than the X-Type.

It's just hard to "jump ship" I have owned 5 Bimmers and I love the way they drive.

I am not complaining at all - the Jag is a very nice car. Its great to drive and it looks great. I had planned to keep my 5 series another 2 years, then purchase an M3. The 5 was just too expensive to keep. I had about $3k in it this year and then got an estimate for another $1.6k to fix a couple more things. Arrrgg it really hacked me off [hatchet] because I really wanted to keep it so I could purchase an M3.

I don't know anyone at Ford, but this car has such a high rebate and the dealership worked the cost way, way down. I just couldn't pass it up. It is fully loaded with sport package, navigation, xenons, alpine stereo w/woofer, rain sensing wipers, heated seats and 18" wheels. It was quite a bit less than a lightly loaded 325. There was a personal issue that really made my mind up. I just never thought I would be driving a Jag over a Bimmer, but I really like it, a lot more than I thought I would.

The sport package has no chrome.
