I think seeing more BMWs around isn't an inherently bad thing, in fact it's a good thing because increasing sales solidify the future of the company. However, the problem that I have with the increased sales of BMWs in this country is that the newer cars seem to be more "mass produced" than the older BMWs. Quality has suffered as a tradeoff for designing the cars to be quick, easy, and cheap to build for a high volume sales market. I oersonally couldn't give a crap about "prestige." If everyone else on the road also had a BMW, then great. I just want new BMWs to be built as well as the old cars, like the E30s. Part of the "specialness" of the BMW name came from the history that BMW cars were high performing cars that focused on the driving experience, were chock full of uniquely German design, and would run forever. BMWs didn't have as much of the "mass produced feel" as most of the other vehicles on the road. Recently, the effects of mass production seems to be pushing BMW design, quality, materials, and safety away from the BMW heritage.
