But, the point is not whether or not I can read the manual and grasp all of the car's complexities. The point is that one shouldn't have to push an array of buttons and then go into Idrive's menu system to change settings in order to do something like get the car to accelerate its fastest. That's not the point of what a car like this should be. One can get into an RS4 and punch it and it will give you everything it's got. You don't have to navigate a menu system and push the right buttons on the console to "set up" the car so it'll give you everything it's got. I certainly do understand the technology gripes about the M5 and M6.
Nicely said. If some one drops 90K on a car, should they have to read a manual to figure out how to wrangle to most performance from it? It's not like its cool to say, oh, I just bought a BMW M5, and now I have to figure out how to work it, or at least maximize its potential. That sucks. You can a plop down 150K for a Continental GT, hop in and drive off and hit 60 in less than 5 sec., on your way to damn near 200 mph, no questions asked, same goes for a manual 911 or F430.
Now I don't know if the M5 deserves 3rd just for the gearbox and i-drive, but those are enough to put at least in 2nd in my book. Nobody doubts that it's one hell of track star, however. Even though I think the E63 looks a little stale already, the fact that you can so quickly take from driving-the-inlaws mode to hang-on-for-dear-life mode really says something. Out of the whole group, I think the Audi looks the best, inside and out. I think the 0-60 numbers are a little slow, but if and when Audi decides to do an RS6, watch out, is all I have to say.....
