The new G35 Sedan is a nice option, although the interior room is similar to a 3-Series. Nice updates for 05, including 298hp vs 260hp for the previous models along with new rims to match. The G35 should definitely be completely problem-free.
The 98 E55 AMG is a nice car but if you're trying to avoid a problematic car, you're probably best off with a brand new vehicle.
The new 2005 G35 Sedan has 280hp over the previous 03/04 260hp, it's the coupe that gets the 298hp... been lookin into infiniti not too long ago, not a bad car at all.

On topic: I'd definately check out that e39 M5!

Dollars and I lost 6275............I guess it is not that bad still it is the priciple. Where else can you buy a 2004 E60 530i for 37,500. I am really looking hard at a 2001 MB E320 with 30k miles 16k euro. Looks nice.

.... E39 M5! 400hp, doubt that has many problems unless someone knows otherwise. You can get one for 40k-50k from 2002-03. Its a really nice car..
The only problems that i'm aware of for the E39 M5 are these:
1) The V8 has a huge appetite for oil.
2) The massive torque of the engine can wear the clutch quickly so you'd have to suss that out.

That's basically it I think. It's a very tough, over-engineered car. BMW don't seem to make them like that anymore...

If you get the sedan G35 w/ the manual tranny you DO get the 298hp. The auto tranny is the one with the 280hp.

TF: I dont know wether to say congrats or not. Loosing a BMW is usually not good news, but hopefully nex time youll have better luck. Dont give up on the Bavarian engineers, look at the E39 M5, is still a beauty to be rekoned with.

Yeah, the way it works now for the G35 Sedan and Coupe is this:

This applies for both Sedan and Coupe models:
If you want auto, you get 280hp. If you want manual, you get 298hp.

tool fan, $37,500 is just around the price of a fully loaded G35 Sedan. [;)]

Don't go for the E320...similar (if not the same) acceleration as your 530i, but the engine doesn't sound nearly as nice.
