Sorry to hear about that. People that do such things have are true cowards, disgusting and jealous. And they will get "their's", one day. What goes around comes around.

Unfortunately the reasons for why someone would do such a thing do not fall into two specific categories, there are many possibilities. Point is however, $hit unfortunately happens and you really can't control it, you can only try to prevent them from happening to the best of your ability.

And as for showing age, there isn't anything wrong with that, so don't apologise for it.

Good luck with the fix! =)

vandalism and "acts of nature" (i.e., deers running into your car) are covered under COMPREHENSIVE coverage. as such, they do NOT result in increases in premiums.

if you collide with another vehicle, THAT increases your premiums.

trust me. i know. i've asked the question to my insurance company (just in case).

Speaking of comprehensive coverage claims, about 3 years ago I had a friend file claim for 2 slashed tires and a keyed hood. About 3 months later, he hit a deer while in upstate New York. Statefarm paid the claim, and then dropped him. Going on that would lead one to believe that they do take into account comprehensive claims when calculating your risk. Thats like insuring an M6 that gets parked in the west district of Newark New Jersey, and every time the car gets vandalized, broken into, or attempted to be stolen, the owner simply files a claim and insurance pays without any penalty? I doubt it works that way. The way I see it any claim, any ticket, any inquiry even, can raise your risk. I'd be weary of insurance companies, especially if I was an 18yr old male driver in California. I would wanna be as far off the radar of my insurance company as possible, considering they already classify that age group as ultra-high risk. I also doubt insurance companies have gotten any more lenient in the last 3 years...

Although I do agree with getting it documented for the vandalism and if possible, find the perp and charge him with criminal property damage.

He was dropped for excessive claims within a set period of time. They do not raise rates for comp claims, if they get excessive they will drop you over them. If he files a comp claim and has no other activity I doubt his rates will be affected. A simple call to his agent can settle this.

Yup, lets hope nothing else happens then. I personally would not want the first claim and then take the risk of getting another, not at that age. But thats just me, if you wanna prank call the insurance company go for it, I dont care.

How is calling your insurance company to ask a question regarding coverage/rates a "prank" call? I call my insurance guy a lot and ask him questions regarding track coverage etc. It is my/his right as a customer to ask questions!

With regards to telling them you're a racer, or you race gokarts.

You're also right about the claims limit in a short period of time, but if you go to any website for an insurance quote, they ask if you filed ANY claims in the past 3 or 5 yrs depends on the company, and that does effect your competitive quote. All of this advertising to save you money, is aimed at those drivers who never file claims, as thats the premium market insurance companies want the biggest market share of. Right now if you have 2 or more accidents in the past few years, you can guarantee skyhigh rates from every major insurer in the United States.

Uhm... who said anything about an accident report? We are trying to inform of proper procedure SHOULD he find the person responsible. WITHOUT proper documentation (regardless of jurisdiction) you, the victim are S*** out of luck.

And I believe Jason is simply suggesting to talk to the insurance company and ask whether rates go up if he files a claim. Insurance companies have NO right to increase premiums for an inquiry. Most (if not all) insurance companies state that premiums only increase for increase risk; I doubt finding out if rates will increase for this will qualify. And even if he files an accident report, so what? So long as the HE DOES NOT FILE A CLAIM with hih insurance, his insurance should not increase.
Yeah I agree, I honestly doubt your insurance will go up, my fathers ML was hit for the 3rd time this year. (I got rear ended in it when driving, then it was sideswiped when parked, and now my dad got rear ended again) and the insurance didn't go up considering the time frame. We had our insurance pay out instead of the other person(s). And this is with Geico, like said above you really should call and find out.

Forgot to mention, before the ML got rear ended, I rear ended someone 4 months prior in the Land Rover due to ABS failure, insurance didn't go up either. Note that this is all since August 2006. Gotta LOVE NYC and its great drivers.

well today(tuesday) I went to my Uncle's and him and I spent the afternoon doing what we could to the scratches. I'd say it looks pretty good. except for the deep scratches in the front. we over sanded the front fender just a little bit. but since the scratches are so deep up there we are going to touch-up paint it and reclear the entire top half of the front fender.
