Sorry man. That sucks. See if best buy has survelience cameras; try something if the damge is bad.

And people are nuts; I have simply 318is and mine has gotten keyed 2-3 times; granted it was in baltimore city, but still.

Good luck.

It sucks, I know the feeling. It happened to me years ago in college, not on a bimmer, but makes no difference. The 325i had a rear quarter window punched out when my daughter was a college last year.

People can just be a*holes.

im not sure how deep it is some places it looks jus like the clear coat is gone and others there are white stuff peeling from it where the x forms. and the thing is on the 3rd pic there is a scratch on the pointed bodywork which could not have been done by hand. right?

I'm guessing you either have an enemy or your car looks like that of someone else that the particular vandal wanted to get back at. Those are the only two real possibilities, unless this was in a poor area or high crime area. I don't understand why people would randomly vandalize what clearly looks like a 10yr old BMW; it sells for the same price as a somewhat newer used civic or accord. This is another reason to be careful where one parks.

I suppose in theory one could also thank the aggressive and snobby BMW drivers who have poor road manners as well as a bad attitude. Class issues come into this as well, I have no idea where in California you are however...

It could have been worse, to be honest with you, I would see if I could get video of it and if I couldn't just let it die. It's not worth stressing over...

well BMW 325i 7803, i couldn't DISagree with you anymore. Im sorry but all of those while being good feedback are mostly incorrect. many variables can be accounted for the situation yes but i am not a poor driver nor a crazy driver. i only speed. the neighborhood is not bad. i have no current enemies. and "not worth stressing over" you dont realize that this car was my pride and joy and i love it and its my baby and i wouldnt give it up for any regular 328i

sm32589g, you GOT to file a police report before doing anything (preferably at the time the incident occurred).

My car just got side-swiped (thread here somewhere); I went in and asked for access to videos; first I was told they don't have any. Then when I said I can see the cameras on top of the building, they told me I need a police report. You have to stay on top matters like this otherwise people will escape liability.

I knwo the Best Buy near my house has cameras all over the parking lot, but the Best Buy in White Marsh (60 minutes away from me) does not have in the parking lot, but does have them on top of the building.

Get a police report; then have the police officer ask... I think you find 'cameras' appear. Trust me, ANY store that sells electronics is going have cameras all over the place, including the parking lot, for LP (loss and prevention).

Also, regardless of stereotypes or whatever, the fact remains that there are those in this world who either just don't care or, as my buddy Frank (Sinatra) puts it, "some people get kick, stopping on a dream." But remember Frank's next lyric, "But I don't let, I don't let it get me down. Cause this fine old world keeps spinning round...That's Life"

Love that song. That is the theme song to life.

one can attempt to make sense of "senseless acts of idiocy," but it never really goes anywhere.
i feel for you man, i was somewhat feelin for ya until the pics, but man those pics.. it took me over the top!!
get the police report and hopefully insurance can step in without jacking up the rates.
course this is easier said then done, as pissed off as you may be, vent it here and release it.

DO NOT FILE AN ACCIDENT REPORT! If it is a police report for the vandalism that occurred, then yes, but believe me, you do not want your insurance hearing about this. Chances are the deductible is higher than the cost of the repair, or chances are you'll be put in a high risk category, they don't hire actuaries for nothing.

Guys lets not give him bad advise over a few scratches, after all is said and done nobody but him will have to pay the higher insurance bill and have the 5yr claim history.

As for my comments, smg, re-read that post, I did not say you were a bad driver, I simply gave you reasons why what happened could have happened. There is a lot of hatred for BMW drivers out there, and those reasons were all legitimate possibilities for what happened. You cannot just rule them out and be "unable to disagree more", your age shows here. I understand you're upset, but you have to move on and stop dwelling on it. It could have been slashed tires or broken windshield, or paint thrown on the car. I'd take scratches over those any day. You also said the car "was your pride and joy" as if now it no longer is, come on now... Hopefully you can get a good deal on buffing it out, it will look even better than before.

Good luck in the future, and watch where you park.

Uhm... who said anything about an accident report? We are trying to inform of proper procedure SHOULD he find the person responsible. WITHOUT proper documentation (regardless of jurisdiction) you, the victim are S*** out of luck.

And I believe Jason is simply suggesting to talk to the insurance company and ask whether rates go up if he files a claim. Insurance companies have NO right to increase premiums for an inquiry. Most (if not all) insurance companies state that premiums only increase for increase risk; I doubt finding out if rates will increase for this will qualify. And even if he files an accident report, so what? So long as the HE DOES NOT FILE A CLAIM with hih insurance, his insurance should not increase.

Jeez...sorry for the damage. That really sucks mann.

I don't think insurance claims on damage from vandalism would affect your premium.
Call and check with your insurance.
