Are you sure the price is $25k US dollars? $25k pounds is about market price on a 2003 M3 with the mileage.

Given the worth of the dollar these days, $25k is far too cheap. If the price is in dollars, it is either the deal of the century or fraud.

I have a feeling you're right. Either that or they simply don't resell as well in the UK as in the US.

I am getting the chassis number and all that good stuff today, I am going to run a Carfax and run the VIN just to make sure it is not stolen or something. I re verified with the guy, he said 19k euro....24k euro with tax, but I am an American here so I don't pay tax. He said more or less that he is hard up and needs the cash. I only have three words if all is ok with it......

COME TO DADDY!!!!!

I ran a CARFAX and found out that is is even a US spec M3......this is getting better by the moment. One owner, in Florida, car was sold to a dealer at auction and now it is in London UK with roughly the same milage that it was sold at auction with. I think that at this price I may be forced to buy it.

That is such a deal. I'm always paranoid about incredible deals, but sometimes they do come along with no hidden "features". But, even if it is messed up, you could probably sell it for more $$ than what you paid.

I would be careful with a Florida car. One owner sounds good, but Florida is notorious for title washing accident or salvage cars. Don't forget 75,000 Florida cars were water damaged by Hurricane Floyd.

Again, this may be the deal of the century, but the price is so low you have to be very cautious.

Doesn't that kind of stuff have to be reported? I thought CARFAX was a very reliable source.

looks nice Mike, hope everything is as described, and works out.

i'd opt for the eruo spec over american spec, but that's just judging by hp number. i really don't know the difference. i wonder if you have to do any fittings and mods to meet euro specs, maybe that's why its so "cheap"?

well good luck, and bring back some good news! [:D]

Yes it is required to be reported, however that does not mean that they do it. Carfax is also not 100% accurate. As I have stated several times on the board, I know an M3 owner who was rear ended at the close of a track event. The damage was so bad that you could reach into the trunk with out opening it. They never reported the accident and his M3 is Carfax certified as having never been in an accident. Just have the car inspected, call BMW NA and have them research the VIN for service records, and do your homework, good deals do exist but do not get burned!

I think CarFax accidents come primarily from police reports and other "public" records? Do insurance companies submit none, some or all of their data to CarFax? If the insurance companies don't submit, there could be a lot of non-police reported accidents that don't show up, including floods, etc.

Here's what they say:

Our unique database contains more than three billion records. We receive information from thousands of public and private sources including all Departments of Motor Vehicles (DMVs) in the United States and Canada, as well as many vehicle inspection stations, auto auctions, fleet management and rental agencies, automobile manufacturers, and fire and police departments.

The exclusive CARFAX Buyback Guarantee reduces the risk involved in buying a used car. If CARFAX fails to include a DMV-reported incident (salvage, fire, flood damage, odometer problems, lemon history) in a CARFAX Report, we may buy the vehicle back for the full purchase price.

Well, when I was searching for a car, I used carfax more for a "where did it come from" and "were the miles consistant" kind of thing. A carfax can't tell the true history of the car - especially a florida car. I'd say a carfax report on a car being sold in PA will be more reliable than a carfax on a florida car simply becuase of the type of area.

Btw to check for flood damage check the spare tire well, check for musty smells (almost impossible to get out of the HVAC), look for rusted screws in the passenger compartment or the top of the engine compartment (where water normally would never be), check to make sure the light lenses aren't fogged up, etc.

You know what? I should check my car on CarFAX to see if my spin-out is listed. It was only mechanical damage and I'm pretty sure my local dealership fixed that shit up real quick to keep it on the low-low. Granted there was no body damage and everything that broke was completely replaced (so the car is 100%, needed a new left rear shock, left rear spring, left rear axle rod, and a few minor nuts & bolts, and a new wheel), I'm not sure if I should expect to see that "accident" listed. I think my car would be a good way to test and see just how specific CarFAX really is....

Btw, that accident was never reported with insurance or anything so they had no idea this even happened.

But if the cops/law knew about it then it would be reported.

I don't know guys............I really appreciate all the input but, I think I am going to just leave this alone. Usually things that sound to good to be true......ARE.......I emailed the guy about how the car ended up in the UK and apparently he buys from the states and imports them into the UK. 19k euro for an M3 that he bought in the states plus had it imported into the UK????? Sounds a bit fishy to me. The price doesn't warrant the car. 25k dollars for a 2003 M3 Dinan Convert with 12k miles........C'mon.....just doesn't add up. Besides he says he is in the states now buying 2 more cars to import to the UK. Does this sound odd to anyone else? Maybe it is a drug repo car.
