Yes but they are very hard on tires. I spent a day at an airport and literally wore out a set of tires during an 8 hour day. Very corse pavement.
Sounds like the F-1 on the track! [:D] [:D] [:D]

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is nothing to sneeze at. They have already received orders for 266 of these planes. The 787 family of aircraft, in the 200 to 300 seat class, will carry passengers non-stop on routes between 6,500km and 16,000km at speeds up to Mach 0.85. The Dreamliner aircraft is being designed in three versions, the baseline version, a short-range and a stretched version.

The baseline version, the 787-8, has a maximum take-off weight of 205,400kg. The aircraft typically accommodates 220 passengers in a three-class cabin configuration. The length is 56m. The wingspan is 58.8m and the height is 17.4m. The range is 15,700km (8,500nm).

The 787-3 short-range version is the same length and height as the 787 but has a shorter wingspan (51.5m). The maximum take-off weight is 136,075kg and the range is reduced to 6,500km. The aircraft will carry 296 passengers in two classes. The stretched version, 787-9, has the same wingspan and height as the standard 787 but the length is increased by 6m to 62m. The aircraft carries typically 259 passengers in a three-class cabin layout. The range is increased to 15,370km and the maximum take-off weight is 223,000kg.

And Boeing is expected to announce the scheduled beginning of the new 747 tonight as they have firm orders for the plane. Don't count Boeing out of the mix!
Bingo! I just saw on the morning news today about this. They have in fact taken over 200 orders for the plane. The cargo version is already under way....

The 380 is set to be the 747-400's replacement... [hihi] Boeing all the way... while it still can.
Let me reiterate my statement; Boeing all the way…. Oh, and I left out; **** Airbus…..

Boeing is doing quite well. They are not concerned about the 380. Boeing believes that the market is for smaller, fuel efficient and flexibly designed planes (as Dan's post hilights) - replacing the huge fleet of 737s, MD80s, etc. as they get old. That's what the 787 is all about, and so far it's looking good.

I agree Steve, that new Airbus is going to be a monster in the skies. I am interested in seeing one up close, but living in Boeing land and having many friends who’s family depend directly on Boeing I am a bit partial.....

THANK YOU BIG DADDY!

I am getting tired of hearing people say how the 380 is going to "be the death" of Boeing. Like Boeing is just twiddling its thumbs waiting for the entire market to leave them....please.

Exactly.. the 380 has or had (company products are constantly evolving) no competitor as Boeing is not going to make a super capacity jet liner... rather they have other focuses as you highlighted such as more fuel efficient and technologically advanced planes. Boeing is definately not out of the mix... [hihi] I love jumping back in late especially when my statement still stands (I must admit I didn't think or research it out well).

Actually they probably mean the A380 is going to be the death of the 747-400 and on that statement they are right. People tend to think of Boeing as the "jumbo jet" and with the airbus jumbo jet coming out, they rightfully assume the crown has changed corporate hands. In fact it's been known for quite some time that Boeing is pursuing smaller aircraft, whoever counts Boeing out is talking out of their ears...

Then again back to the 747 replacement question.. Boeing might make their own smaller fuel efficient plane to replace it and in that sense the 747 never dies rather it evolves.

You guys watch the thing on discovery about the 380? When the american company who designed the landing gear failed becuase the landing gear wouldn't drop out of the plane from getting stuck on a door? Their fix was some ghetto rigged ledge or something.

SORRY but I wouldn't want to fly in it.
