Gas problem

My problem is on my GF's E30 '88 325i. She had a gas leak near her fuel filter which took me a while to find as it was a tiny pin hole in a hard line. I fixed the leak, but the inside of her car smells of gas. The gas sprayed through the pin hole onto the rear floor of the car and got into the car somehow (seam or throught the big round grommet in the floor board) and soaked the rear carpet.
My question is; What is the trick, or best way to get the smell and the still wet gasoline out of the car without pulling and replaceing the whole carpet?

From the thread title, I thought you have a gas problem and your GF made you sleep on the couch.....

I guess you need to rinse and clean the area with lots of water, then many days of air drying to get rid of the smell.
I suggest you clean the spot thoroughly, as the gasoline could possibly disintegrate the carpet over time.
Ever left a piece of rag (that was previously soaked with gasoline) aside,
forgot about it, then later found it, pick it up and see that the rag disintegrates in your hand?

Fuel smell

Hi there...

I'd suggest air drying the vehicle on a nice hot sunny day, so that the better part of it evaporates.
After that, try sprinkling some baking soda on to the area, waiting a bit and then vacuuming it up, and then leaving some more on/under it to absorb more of the smell, and then vacuum that up a few days later.

Just my 2 cents, and hope this helps,
Tiger

Check your local police supply house, they have a product that you sprinkle in the car to remove body waste that absorbs it and can than be swept or vacuumed out. This might help.

Bwahahahaha!
Yeah, soaking with water and using a light carpet cleaning spray is your best bet with lots of air drying (all doors and windows, sunroof open)
Thought you were getting rid of you girls e30?
