FROLF NEEDS TIRES!?!?!?!13215!@!

well i'm gonna get some new tires this week, and i'm struggling. My old tires were Potenza S-03's and they were awesome. but i want to explore my horizons a bit, any suggestions? minus kuhmo's. I'm looking to keep it under $1k.

Dan, I'd stay with the Potenza's myself if I were you. I had pilots on the Camaro and wet traction was hard to come by, dry traction was pretty good, but I mean the tires are overpriced IMO for what you get.

i was thinking that the price was a bit high too. but i really want to try something different, and if worse comes to worse i'll use them for track events and buy S03's next summer

My car came with Michelin Pilot Sports. So far I like them and they were fine in our recent rain but we do not get much rain here. The dry traction has been good with no tramlining in my 18 inch sizes. Give the Tire Rack website a try or talk to one of their reps. They have a list of partnered installers that they maintain and ask feedback about.

i vote other - kumho 712
dirt cheap, sticky, good wear, and i had em on in the winter
i like em

however u mentioned u no buy kumho
so i say dunlop sp9000

under 1000 for tires?!?! that's ridiculous!
my kumho prices
255" / 17 - $100 each (x2)
235" / 17 - $80 each (x2)

its pointless to pay more

you have a good point, because essentially i will drive them hard no matter the tire, and saving money is usually a top priority with me. but kuhmo's are super heavy, and with the added weight of my new 17" wheels i'm not sure i want to add a heavy tire. but what does it really matter for street use i guess.

any opinion on any of the Pirelli tires anyone?

i´m a fan of michelin sport tires. i admit i never had s-03´s but turanzas. and my experience with bridgestone was bad based on those tires. good traction but aweful lifetime. the michelin i have now stick way better to the asphalt then my old bridgestones AND last loooonger.

well i read some revies on tirerack about the Michelin Pilot Sport PS-2, and think i'm going to go with that. though they are some $197 per tire (235/40-YR17) on tire rack. hopefully before friday i will order them. so if you have any decision altering advice, friday is your deadline[;)]

thanks everyone

I have pilot sports on my car during the non winter months and I love them. They stick to the pavement very well and I have never had a traction problem in the rain and I do drive pretty hard. Tread wear isn't great but its not terrible either. They are a bit on the pricey side but you are buying a good tire. Enjoy them! I have never met a person who hasn't liked them. [:)]

Dan, this is your call. I really don't see why you'd want to put out a pretty penny for the pilots. If you are really as pleased with your current steup tire wise then why change it? Exploring different horizons tire wise can be fun... but I think the cost outweighs the fun...

I'm in the market for new wheels/tires very soon - how many miles do you guys get out of the Pilot Sports? And what kind of driving styles are you subjecting them to?

I've put about 10K on my pilot sports and am expecting to get another 10-12K out of them. I have a heavy foot and drive very hard 85% of the time.

If you are going to stay with an expensive, high performance tire, the S03s are very good.

I have Toyo Proxes T1-S on the NSX. I will probably step up to something like an S03 in the near future. The Toyos are pretty good, but I think I can do better for that car. I would complain about the fact that I only got 8k on the rears, but that is what a lowered NSX with 3.5 degrees of negative camber will do to a set of tires. I will be changing my H&Rs to Eibachs to see if I can get that down to 1.5 or 2 degrees.

If I were you, I would get some Yokohama AVS ES 100s. They have 90% of the performance of the S03s, at half of the price or less. I got a set of 225/50/16s a few years ago for around $400 shipped.

They wear very well. I had about 25k on mine, including a few DEs, when I sold the Bimms, and they looked brand new.

Honestly, I don't think you need more than the AVS ES 100s on your 328. They were a perfect match for my modded 325.
