Hey,

Did anybody catch Car & Driver TV (on Spike) today? The first few minutes was about the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari. That thing just looks super amazing. They were spitting out all these different numbers...it costs $24,000 for new brake rotors and $6,000 for new brake pads. That means a complete brake job almost costs as much as my car !! Also, you can only use one type of oil in the car, which is a special formula of Mobil oil. It costs $60 per quart and the Enzo needs 12 quarts of oil, which makes the oil change cost upwards of $700. They also said that if you don't use their oil, it takes away the warranty of your engine and if they need to install a new engine due to not using their specific oil, it will run you $200,000 for a new one. Jeez, talk about high maintenance costs....[fake]
I'm curious as to how much the wax for that car costs. Either way, I'm sure the car is worth every penny. [:D]

you both make valid points. an STi would give similar thrills. BUT OMG an ENZO that car is in sane. isn't it like 0-100 in 7.7 or something like that. and the scream from that engine would make it worth the money to me. i'm sure other cars can put up sick numbers for $25k, but an enzo, yeesh. thats just a pure bred car from the factory. mmmmmmm.

took a test drive in an sti today wit my boy. they made me put down a 1000k dollar deposit. after giving them one of my credit cards which they made me check to make sure i had the credit line for. we were off and let me say one f*&kn thing,....... O,.....M,.....F'n,.....GOD!!! the enzo may be one of the greatest thrills anybody could have while riding in a vehicle, but saving about a 1/2 a mil. and still run 0-60 in less than 5 secs is unbelievable. i know what my next car will be, it's a 32k 2004 wrx STI. that car was simply orgasmic!!!!

Anyone read the January issue of C&D? Why not pickup a Ford GT for a measley $150,000. 0-60 in 3.3. Top end over 200mph. The only thing that can outrun it is the Enzo, and *maybe* a Saleen S7. But with the Saleen ticking in at 400k and the Enzo at over 600k, why bother? Get some American supercar for a bargin price!

I don't think the Enzo is overpriced. Look at the car...just the body for example, is so well-laid-out that the Enzo doesn't require a rear spoiler for high speed stability. The Enzo is worth every penny and I doubt the STi or any other supercar, can provide the thrills that the Enzo can. They say that you feel Ferrari's entire racing history in every Ferrari vehicle, especially in the Enzo. Sure, you have to be like a trillionare to be able to pay the $650K price tag and be able to afford its insane maintenance costs, but I think for those few 349 Enzo owners who can afford it, it is worth it.

MrElussive makes some good points. You can't put a price on the soul of a car. The Enzo takes the rich heritage of Ferrai and gives you a street legal F1 car - that actually FEELS like an F1 car. While other super cars can run with the Enzo, none can put the same smile on the drivers face as the Ferrari. But for those of us who can't handle the extra 500,000 on the price tag, a Ford GT will have to do...

If I was a trillionare, I'd have all three (Enzo, GT & the Lambo).

actually no push. all the enzos were sold to previous ferrari customers long before the car was even ready to be sold or showed

the enzo is an amazing car its areodynamics are the best of any modern supercar.
the saleen though, that's where my money would go
the front lip spoiler on that car can support the entire car's weight. amazing engineering
when u order one, they fly u and 1 other person to caliornia, 5 star hotel, u get fitted to
the seats, and the pedals are positioned for you...the owner of saleen takes you on a
test drive with his saleen around a race track.

only 400,000 . best way to spend that kind of cash i can think of at the moment

Ferrari does that. Their most coveted models are presold to selected current Ferrari Owners based on their prior loyalty and purchases.

Even if I had a gazillion dollars, I wouldn't want to own a car that I was afraid to drive because it might get a rock chip, a door ding...I wouldn't even want a bird to crap on it. I think my ceiling is around $150,000 where I could still live with myself if I totaled out a car. I borrowed friends new 911 last year and even that, I didn't want to park it at the mall (or much of anywhere). If I had an Enzo or Maclaren F1, it would just sit in the garage, and what fun is that.

Dude.. with that much money you need not worry. Ferrari is in business to make money. Pay them 1.5 MILL. and they will make you another one even if they are sold out. [:p]

people have tried. No dice. While they are about making money, luxury sports cars like Ferrari also involve prestige and the mystique of being unattainable. To help further cultivate that culture, the deliberately limit their output and who gets their cars. Lots of people have money, but Ferrari (particularly Enzo himself) is famous for bashing in the egos of super rich/famous people who want their cars... hence, the creation of Lamborghini. Plus, $1.5M is chump change to Ferrari. You'd prolly have to offer like $500M for them to make a special one for you, but then, it'd be much easier and cheaper to buy one from another owner (and they have been exchanged for about $1.3M even tho you're not supposed to "flip" these cars).

But can you blame them? Let's say I can afford a Ferrari and I am a first-time buyer and I really want one. So I decide to purchase the Ferrari 360 Modena, an entry-level Ferrari. I go to a Ferrari dealership to place an order and they tell me, "It will take 2 to 2 and a half years." Unbelievable !!
Maybe if I had a VERY financially secure future and time to kill, I would wait it out...nothing is more elite than Ferrari's "preferred customers" list. [:D]
