Well, I'm pretty sure the double lock feature saved my ass friday night.

It was 75 degrees on friday, so when i went to work, I let my sunroof popped up, and my windows cracked. I double locked my car like usual at work, and worked. After work, i noticed a J-shaped piece of wire sitting next to my drivers side wheel. i thought that was a little odd.

This morning, I noticed 4 or 5 very small scratches on the rubber "seal" at the bottom of the window (the glass rubs against it when the window is put up and down). I didnt realize it until a little later that someone was probably trying to break into my car (and other cars -- when I was on my break, my manager had to go out to turn his car alarm off.
If someone tried to break into my car, they wouldnt be able to get the lock to budge. I just thought it was interesting, that someone might have tried to break into my car and failed.

When you put your key in, you can turn it 45 degrees to the right, and lock it, then turn it back to where it was originally and pull your key out. Double locking (on e30's atleast?) you actually turn the key 90 degrees to the right, so you lock it like normal but keep turning, and it 'double locks' the entire car. Basically, it makes it impossible to pull the lock knobs up. Thats why if you double lock a passenger into your bmw, the only way out is to kick a window out.

Its not that expensive, it's like 30 bucks.

How do you like the requirement of the double opening of the inside handle that is required to get out of the car?
Actually, if you double lock an e30, you can't get out of the car at all. You can't pull up on the lock button, and you can't open the door by pulling on the handle.

I meant.........every time you want to get out of the car, you have to flip the handle twice before the door opens........no matter if you lock it once, twice...........or no lock at all......I think its a strange feature........

E30's are like normal cars.. I never heard of the double thing, and every time i've gotten into new BMW's including E46's, I only had to pull the handle once.

Same here. I drove an E46 323i for a summer for work, and never had to pull the interior door handle twice. Are you sure there isn't something wrong with your locks, Harley?

There's no problem that I know of, from the day I got the car, you have to flip the handle twice to get either door open........maybe my salesman programmed it that way so I wouldnt accidently fall out......... [fake] [fake] I always tell people it is some BMW safety feature......or if I really like them, I dont tell them how to get out until I'm ready for them to get out........ [whip]

I had the dealer program my keys so that the doors are locked once I drive the car for a few minutes. If I want to open the door (even the driver door), I have to pull the handle twice.
