[thumbd] why don't they get a RS6 or something, or an M5 lol. In any case I guess it fits the job well, plenty of room in the back for Seabass and his crew to be apprehended [bmwdance]

I wonder if Dodge is for or against their Magnums being used as police cruisers since I think it will ultimately drive down their value.

Dodge will only make money on it though. Getting a contract through the state which means most counties will be buying your vehicle = $$$

i think the magnum would make an awesome cop car. plenty of power, handles well, room for the 300lbs of crap they carry around. I give it two thumbs up [thumb] [thumb]
I wonder how it's going to hold up compared to an impala or a crown vic? Especially in any kind of persuit, you would think a longer car would be harder to control.

At least when you get pulled over, you can ask "That thing got a hemi?" [hihi]

The Crown Vic is junk, it floats at high speeds and feels sloppy. I never got to drive an Impala in a police package, but would like to have. I still think one of the best was the old whale mobiles, Chev Caprice with the L88 motor, that was a good police car. The last police package I drove was the Tahoe and it felt weid, just too tall and cumbersome.

I wonder if the 300C would be better suited for the job? It's a big car, so it should still have plenty of room. My friends dad (who is the sargent of the local police) used to drive the impala, but now he drive an explorer. He said the impala was a pretty capable car and better than what they used to have...I think crown vic's (He didn't say anything bad about the impala, he's a fan of chrysler, so I'm sure if he didn't like the cars they use, he would've said so)

I think that 300C would or even the Magnum would make great police cars. We had two Chevrolet front wheel drives things, I can't remember the name of them, small cars that the guys hated! We stuck with the Crown Vic and the Tahoe.

We have a meter maid type of person around here... she drives one of the real old crown vic's. The lady that drives it isn't a "real cop" but she's in charge of parking, the DARE program, etc. and if they need her, she will act as backup, I just don't think she can pull you over. It's just funny seeing this early 90's crown vic driving around town with huge light bars. The new cop cars have these sneaky LED lightbars, they are about 1" thick and there's no way you can tell it's a cop car in your rear view mirror [mad]

Illinois has been using a number of camaros, mustangs, and even [hah] Dodge caravans as unmarked cars.

Utah Highway Patrol has used mustangs for years and don't think it did anything to Ford except give them some $$$$.

Last time I was in my home town in Idaho, all the cops had were white Ford F150's and Explorers. Of course, many of their calls (especially in the winter) require 4WD to get to the locations.

I dont know if you are talking about the old Crown Vic's or the '98 and up model, but the new ones ('98 and up) are pretty damn good cars. A friend of mine has a '98 with almost 200k miles on it and it still chirps between shifts and feels solid on the road. Its not a BMW, ill give you that, but for an american rwd car, not bad.
And of all the ones ive worked on, the only real problem that arises in them are intake manifolds breaking (plastic. aluminum aftermarket avail.) and cats going bad. not a bad car for a Ford

Yes there is, all large American sedans are assumed police cars by me, and I can tell by the headlights and the width/design of the car that it's police. Any alert automotive enthusiast can spot the sleeper police cars...

The highway patrol in Nevada uses Camaros, Vettes and Mustangs. Those are some fast cars.
At a Taco Bell not far from me (like 35 minutes), they have an organized "car show" type deal in the parking lot on Sunday nights during the warmer months. It is organized and clean and fun, and even one or two cop cars are usually there to make sure everything stays cool. But the one time that I went, all of a sudden a huge swarm of cops showed up. They had every time of cop car you can imagine. Explorer cops, Crown Vics, police vans, police trucks, and a Camaro with the small round siren on its roof (painted in green). They also brought tow trucks and basically if you wanted to leave the parking lot, they would inspect your car completely to make sure you have insurance, and to make sure all your parts/car were not stolen, and to make sure all your parts were legal. If you failed any of these, your whip would get towed away on the spot. Fortunately, I found a back way to escape and I was in my dad's car (completely un-modded obviously) so they never called me out to search my car or anything.

I think the Dodge Magnum is a great idea for a cop car. HEMI V8 for good accleeration, it has good braking, and very roomy on the inside. The local cops in my town have a couple of brand-new Expeditions. I cannot understand how they could use that as a cop car...the Expedition is such a awful-handling, slow vehicle, I'm surprised they can catch anyone!!

I completely agree Dodge will be making money off of this, but if its a popular car and selling well I think they'll hurt the model's image by doing this.
