i couldn't see any dings on the inside of the hood, and nothing showed through to the outside. and i didn't really get an opportunity to inspect the fan clutch carefully.

about 2 hours ago my car broke down. it felt like i hit someting (which happens all the time due to brown snow chunks and low ride height) but at the next light things down sound so good. the next 200m sounded like something metallic was dragging from my engine bay, but everything else seemed ok.

i pulled off and popped the hood. an odd aroma filled the air, not tire, not clutch, not oil, but a little bit of tire/clutch. not clutch because while pulling off it engaged fine, not tire because i would've felt it.

something is out of order, as i peer into my engine bay. and then i see a piece of plastic sitting on the engine cover. i recognize what it is and look down, every blade on the fan that sits behind my radiator was snapped off, and the blades were all over the engine bay. the smell was coolant. but the radiator still looked fine.

i started it for about 5 seconds with the hood open and was scared shitless, sounded soooo bad. the fan looked to be no longer perpendicular to the crank.

i rolled the car back and underneath the radiator some coolant had leaked out and there was a spring sitting on the right side.

i'll post pics tomorrow when i go get the car towed to bmw....[V]

omg dude that tottally sucks :( I hope everything works out

well this is what i know.

the water pump siezed, and thats how shit hit the fan (literally). I don't know much more than that because i am still out west skiing, but as soon as i return i will be having a nice long chat with my mechanic. but it was the water pump's deal. also i'm sure a lot of you would like to know the financial extent of the damage, i sure as hell do.

oops, forgot about this thread.

Water pump siezed. Thermostat, gaskets, and fan blade got effed up.
Parts:
Fan Blade
Drive belt
Waterpump
Thermostat
Profile Gasket
0-Ring

Total for that job, parts and labor was $1200.

They also found the my rear extension housing and shifter shaft seal were leaking, they replaced those, parts were like $70ish

Total w/labor was $470.

Damage, about $1700.

yeah... that'll make a dent all right.

Not to mention i'm having misfires in cylinders 3 and 5 (ignition coils most likely) AND a faulty 02 sensor. Oh and my balljoints need to be replaced. but hey, that doesn't matter, i'm made of money........[V]

Should i be scared now? I already had to get a new radiator.. and a new thermostat. so uhh.. is there a few key things i should be looking for or should i not be worried.

Well I don't know what to tell you man. I mean to a certain extent you should be worried, but for the most part no. My brother's water pump gave way out of no-where. He was just sitting at a stop light and all of a sudden the guy next to him tells him that there is coolant spraying everywhere. He opens up the hood and the fan was all bend out of shape and the coolant was hitting the blades which caused the splashing.

However, since then he hasn't had a problem with the car. So mainly cooling is the issue with the Disco...

...aside from the shocks being too hard.
