yeah i just checked the bottle it is Turtle Wax F21 cleaner, no acid, and yes, you need to be washing yoru car when you use it. and its damn cheap and works well. i also use all brush

Is brake dust really that hard to clean off? I never have a problem with my rims, maybe you guys let it build up? A little dishwashing liquid and hard wiping does it, some wax on the rim after washing it makes it easier to clean as well. Maybe my rims are easier with their thick spokes...

Yeah I've tried the (old) toothbrush on the 'weaves too but it's too hard to get it into the small angle-spots. I'll give you a tip though, I actually use my little finger to get into the hard-to-reach spots and it works great. It's just a bit of a pain, that's all.

Oh, and to wash the wheels themselves I actually use an old paintbrush and I find the bristles get into the crevices quite well.
