Yeah, it's cool for everyone on this forum to compare BMW's to Toyota's and Honda's, but BMW's to Porsche? Absolutely ridiculous! (note my sarcasm)

Porsche > BMW in terms of performance.

BMW > Porsche in terms of practicality, drivability, and luxury.

There is a new Top Gear review, they compared the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, the BMW M6, and the Porshce 911 Carrera S. The Porsche was the fastest on their little "test track" despite having 140 less horsepower than the M6.

For me, I'd rather have a BMW. Pretty much only two reasons; more practical and more comfortable to drive.

Even if I could afford a Porsche, I just don't see it as anything more than entertainment. Porsches (TO ME) serve only one goal: performance in handling & speed/acceleration. BMWs on the other hand, (Once again, to me) serve multiple goals and meet many more needs (both performance oriented needs and practical matter needs). And quite honestly I think a BMW is much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye & ear than a porsche.

There is a line between BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW | Porsche, they are a sports car company they are like a Ferarri or a Lambo.

Regarding that TP episode that was bull it was pouring rain, no full rear drive BMW does good in the rain, and mostly the M6 BMW, no traction control either! If they took it on their track it would kill it (in the dry), hey on their board the M5 beat the 911 GT3 by a second!

That's probably because they chose a section of road where the M6 couldn't full flex its muscles. All cars were RWD and all cars had traction control off, there was no bias against the BMW. Hell, it even had the SMG transmission whereas the Porsche and the Aston had a regular manual.

The M6 has slick tires, the Porsche does not, a lot of people can't use an BMWs SMG properly as well, Clarkson loved the car though!
How much bullshit can you pull out of your ass in one day? Seriously you must buy tons of preperation-H pretty often. You'll just keep coming up with BS "answers" to suit your stupid bias. The porsche is much lighter than the M6 too.

I agree that there is no direct comparison.

Don't forget maintenance costs, BMWs can cost a small fortune, Porsches cost a king's ransom to maintain.

Yeah...it's just two different classes of cars, in terms of performance. Also, BMW always has to compromise to provide luxury and features and crap.

Even the M3 CSL, which supposedly does not compromise, really does compromise with the SMG tranny.

I agree completely, the BMW was at a disadvantage which explains the loss.

Yeah you can't really compare the two although Eric I wouldn't be using the Buick/Ferrari analogy!!!! More like oranges and apples [hihi]
There is nothing wrong with a Buick, I owned a Buick before I went to the BMW stable... Buick builds some of the most reliable and comfortable American cars; comparable to Cadillac and Lincoln.
