i have never had a problemin the rain in my e30, in fact i used to drive faster in the rain at least compared to everyone else, also my e30 out handles my e36, but then again my e30 was a 325ix but w/o traction control obviously all-wheel drive doesnt reallly need it, but also the abs didnt work in that car it was actually really really fun to drive you lock the brakes easily and it was like a go-kart! i hate al of the gizmomometry.

an inch or two? ya maybe 2inches on the top on the bottom and on both sides and o maybe a foot front to back.
Honestly, just how hard is it to understand the principle that you take a 40 year old Icon, and you show how it would have looked if (like the Golf) it had evolved over 5 generations... rather than stagnate and cling on to life ultimatly unable to meet emissions and safety leglislation... finally being forced out of production as an Icon yes, but also as a dinasour.

If BMW had made the new MINI as small as the original it would not be half as good as the R50/R53/R56... and it would not have sold 1,000,000 units in five years...

Don't get me wrong... nostalgia is good, I'd love to see a genuine all new 'BMW 2002' but sometimes looking back can be a mistake as well.

Well I love the new MINI.................. Thank You BMW

i redline my e46 at least once a day, and the car really doesn't haul ass until u get up to around 6k rpm... makes for a funner commute at least... [driving2]

early model 323i vs. late model 330i = Night and Day.

standard w/ 175hp and 180 torque compared with 225hp and 214 torque w/ sports suspension. I guess a 323i does make for a fun commuter, I had a 325i and in addition to its problems I couldn't believe how slow it was (granted it was an auto), you needed 6,000 rpm to have just a little fun (and gas mileage was dismal, the engine is too small for spirited driving in that car), and if you floored it at 78mph as an SUV passed, the engine would get loud and the SUV would still pass... With the 330i, if you floor it to 6,000+ the car flies, and if you floor it at 80 it pulls swiftly to 100s...

Lets not say all E46's are underpowered, as I am quite happy with my 330i, 3yrs old 42k and still playing with the big guns. [bmwdance]

I find it interesting that a hatch back is said to be the "purest" BMW.

I know what you mean... except that having a full hinged tailgate has no baring driving dymanics and that is core to BMW not body style... IMO

See, I don't mind the E36, the E46 is nice, the E90 is pretty ugly, but the E30 is my love! I would never think of driving an E90 because it looks so big... I love the sportiness and handling of my E30, and the only thing that BMW has made in the last 15years that seems to be a purist's car has been the M Coupe (aka MZ3 Coupe). The new 1 series looks like something that if it doesn't weigh too much and has enough power, would be the next best thing to an E30. If they make this new 1 series perform and handle like an E30 M3, I'd be surprised, but It would be the fourth car that I would accept as a "purist car" with the M (z3) Coupe, E30 M3, and maybe the E36 M3 Lightweight.

I like this car a lot as well. I to, like Matthew, believe this car will sell very well here in the states. Nice photo find Dan. Still reserved on the heavy eye-lid's. IMO, if they were a bit thinner it may or may not look better.....

I think the car is disguised in camo.
