It's not going to help it's sales - but it will help its resale down the road. The reason the resale of a GM or Ford sedan goes so low is becuase there are an ungodly amount of them on the road (mostly thanks to rental companies).
We're beginning to get off topic now but the introduction of a 1 or 2 series BMW cannot and will not increase the sale price of a second hand 3 series. Primarily due to lack of demand, and secondly BMW is beginning to loose its exclusivity through the introduction of cheaper models. People are no longer willing to pay a premium for a badge which you now see more and more often.

Section 8, what you said is exactly the point im trying to make. Instead of buying a used 3 you will wait for the introduction of the newer series, which is what most people will do.

That said, I'm sure the 1 and 2 series will sell like hotcakes, which will keep the finance department happy at BMW. [read]

Hello fellow BMW fans, I am the writer of the article, I would like to clarify some aspects if they are not clear. One, even though the 7er pictures are impressions, the car will look like that, I have had it described by a BMW employee associated with the car, and I have seen spy pictures, which have not hit the net or mags yet, that clearly show the lights and rear. The 4 series was never off, the name was being only discussed at BMW for a longer time than anticapted, all other magazines who wrote the name is dead or back alive, jumped to conclusions. The 2 series impression isn't accurate, none are at this moment this only an idea that is possible. The 2er design is almost done at BMW, but not finalised. cheers.

i believe eric is talking about the resale of the future 3 series because there will be less of then on the market (because people buy the 2 or 1 series) which would make for a higher demand. It won't do anything to current second hand sales.....

i think you are just misunderstanding the argument.

unless i am......

I dont think either of us are misunderstanding the arguement, we just have different opinions.(i am talking about after the introduction of the new series)

To reiterate, IMO, demand for 2nd hand 3-series will NOT increase due to the introduction of the 1 and 2 series, if anything the demand will drop in proportion to the increase in demand for the 1 and 2-series. Like i said, someone unsure about which to purchase will more often than not choose the car with less mileage and longer warranty.

If there are less on the market does not mean there will be a higher demand.

I thought it was logical, does anyone else see it this way? [paranoid]
